Hello again. Here we are just one day shy of my goal to post every day for a week. It’s honestly become something I look forward to. I can feel myself regaining joy in writing and honestly, that alone helps me to complete my goal of experiencing joy today.
Facing the snow and cold put a bit of a damper on things, but I was able to accomplish at least one goal and got an edible and snacks. I’ve been wanting some hot chocolate and I found the French Vanilla hot chocolate that I really like at a store today. As soon as I get some Irish Cream liqueur it’s up. In the mean time, these last couple of days have had me thinking a lot about politics. Mostly about the ways in which they need to change in order for more people to live a better quality of life. It is painfully clear that neither prevalent party in this country is really about progress or actually representing the people as they are supposed to. So, how do we proceed? With all of the technology that we have available now, we are more than capable of representing ourselves. If more people stepped up for their own needs and rights then we could get much further. Unfortunately, we were taught that we elect others to represent us and people are not interested in taking on greater responsibility by advocating for what we need to happen with our tax dollars.
I do continue to hope that enough people can pull together to force the tide to change. It’s possible, if people stop being convinced that it isn’t. In the mean time, I have decided to begin to find ways that I can do what I need to do better for myself. It’s not going to be easy, but neither is living under these systems that were never made to serve me, but instead keep me in some form of servitude. I have done so much hard work that has benefited others far more than myself and at this stage I am ready to do what I need to do for better. It is a lot to think about, but the push is necessary.
When I first started this website with one of my cousins the idea was to create a positive space that shed light on things that did not receive enough coverage, particularly in the city of Chicago which is continuously slandered by outsiders. Of course there are problems in Chicago, we’ve had to deal with a lot of corrupt politicians and police chiefs, not to mention racism and gang culture. However, the culture in Chicago is unmatched and there is so much talent and so many good things happening in Chicago as well. Before I crossed over hosting and lost what we were able to do, this site represented something special. We gave a platform to people who were just trying to be seen and participated in some incredible events that helped move the culture and serve the community. I am going back to those roots, not only for Chicago, but honestly to whatever and whoever I believe needs to be heard about. There is so much vapid negativity online and people don’t understand how we train our algorithms to bring us nonsense. People don’t really look for things anymore, they just wait for the conveyor to bring things to them. Like how people continue to complain about R&B when I am always hearing new, good R&B music. My algorithm brings those things to me, but for those who are still too caught up in mess and the familiar to see it, I will begin to post more of it. I am ready to create the platform I want to see in the world and I am not going to fall for the chaos that is meant to make us hopeless. We have work to do, that’s why we’re here. I’m ready to do mine.
I don’t know how I’ll celebrate completing the goal of daily posting for the week, but I know I’ll be back with both random thoughts and thoughtful post to begin rebuilding. Whether I am talking to myself, screaming into the void, or entertaining just a select few, I am grateful to be in a position to continue to use my voice as I build confidence in it. I hope you had a more than livable day and that by the time I find you tomorrow you will have laughed and smiled. Until then, get some rest. The world will still be there tomorrow…
