On October 25, 2015, the Women’s Freedom Conference will be taking place. It is an all digital conference, open to everyone.
This conference will be 100% online, which means it is available to everyone. From first hearing of it I became excited. It is always amazing when women of color can come together to support & be supported & give love & receive it back. This conference is an excellent opportunity to learn from women from all walks of life from all over the world.
The conference is being organized by Feminista Jones, Sarah Huny Young, Melanie Dione, Bee Quammie, Carolyn Martinez-Class, Evelyn MacFadyen, & Adrienne Gravish. There is also an extensive advisory board which includes the likes of Johnetta Elzie & Reagan Gomez. There will be speakers from allover & many great conversations. All from the comfort of your home.
This conference is centered on providing a necessary space for women of color. According to the WFC2015 Leadership Team, “The mission of the conference is to center Women of Color- our success, our concerns, our work, our activism, & our existence as vital contributors to making the world a better place. We want to make sure that women of color from around the world have a space to speak out & be heard, to teach others & to learn from each other, & to inform people of the work that they are doing in their respective communities”. This is a new, awesome way to attend a conference without having to go anywhere. It’s all taking place where you will more than likely be anyway: social media.
We have already begun to get a taste of what’s in store through what is being called Women’s Freedom Fridays. The hashtag has been utilized for discussion & there have been contributions from speakers talking about entrepreneurship & other important topics. Tomorrow’s conversation begins at noon with a talk about violence against women of color.
The conference will end with a keynote speaker in New York that will be streamed live online. This entire endeavor entails a great deal, which is why they are seeking help to pay for it. Please contribute to this special conference & become a part of making it a reality. You can donate at https://www.youcaring.com/help-us-pay-women-of-color-and-support-their-work-406347.
