Today’s woman of the day is Hillary Clinton, hopefully our next president. A truly fascinating & amazing woman.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1947. She was raised in Park Ridge, IL. Initially Hillary was a republican & even worked on a republican campaign. She became a democrat after hearing Dr. Martin Luther King speak.
She met former President Bill Clinton while attending law school at Yale. Bill purchased a house that Hillary said she’d liked & revealed it after she agreed to marry him. They were married in 1975. She had Chelsea in 1980.
Hillary worked on quite a few campaigns early in her career, including President Jimmy Carter’s presidential campaign. She worked as a lawyer in Arkansas & sat on various company boards, including Walmart. At one point she was named one of the most powerful lawyers in the country.
After becoming First Lady, Hillary was appointed to head the healthcare reform task force, which unfortunately did not succeed. Then of course came her husband’s highly publicized infidelity. Contrary to popular belief, she did consider divorce, though obviously she did not go through with it.
She ran for senate following Bill’s presidency. She became the first woman elected to the New York senate. Then of course she ran for president, which she had to concede to President Obama. Following his election, he appointed Hillary as Secretary of State, an office she held until 2011.
She is now considered the top contender for the democratic nomination for 2016. I know she has my vote. She has been an incredible woman & contender for woman’s rights.
