Yesterday, the great Nelson Mandela passed away at 95. He is gone, but shall never be forgotten. He was an icon, revolutionary, peacemaker & truly beautiful soul.
For those unfamiliar, Nelson Mandela was a lawyer in South Africa who fought against apartheid & because of his efforts spent 27 years in prison. He was sentenced to life, but after an international campaign, he was released from prison in 1990.
Following his release & negotiation of the end of apartheid, he was elected as the first black president of South Africa. He continued to work for racial reconciliation & against poverty.
He was an amazing man, a peaceful soul & a revolutionary. He was a rarity in this world, & though we are all saddened by his death, we can truly marvel at his life. He did what at best we all hoped for, he left this world better than he found it thanks to his tireless efforts for peace, justice, & inequality. He is still honored in the 46664 concert event, which is a tribute to his number in prison.
As you may have seen, there is a film about Nelson Mandela’s life starring Idris Elba out. It has received amazing reviews & will be an awesome view into his life. Find it near you & go witness it.
Rest well, Nelson Mandela. You’ve earned your space in history & in our hearts.
