Last night, artists began turning their avis & profile pictures to a light blue. They began declaring that the tide was turning with Tidal.
Tidal is a streaming service app owned by a group of artists. The app is said to provide high fidelity sound for music as well as videos & other content. The idea is for artists to take back control of their art. They are tired of being used as products & directed by companies. They are taking matters into their own hands.
There was a press conference streamed where the artists came together to present Tidal & what it is about. Of the many artists involved, Alicia Keys spoke & let everyone know that it is a new era. Tidal is by the artists for the artists & the fans. The idea is bringing the content the way the artist intended. Many artists are behind it because they stand to make a great deal more than with other streaming services, particularly Spotify. Word is many artists will be taking their music off of other services & bringing it exclusively to Tidal. The owners present were Alicia Keys, Jack White, Dead Mau5, Jason Aldean, J. Cole, Calvin Harris, Chris Martin, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Rihanna, Kanye West, Usher, Daft Punk, Jay Z & Beyoncé. They all signed the contract & marked the beginning of what they say will be a revolution in music.
Tidal has 2 streaming packages. Neither is free. The prices have bounced around a bit. Initially it was said to be $9.99 for regular quality & $19.99 for hi-fi. Those prices are now suspected to have risen to $12.99 & $25.99. There are free trials for both.
Members will have access to exclusive content directly from the artists. There are suspicions that artists will release new music exclusively to Tidal, particularly Rihanna & Kanye West. That has not yet been confirmed. Today is official launch day. You can go to tidal.com for more details. The app is available for download.
