I’m not a huge fan of podcasts in general; however, one podcast that I absolutely love is The Read. Okay, for those of you who are unaware, The Read is a podcast hosted by Kid Fury and Crissle. Kid Fury is a blogger/youtube personality and Crissle also blogs, but mostly she’s just hilarious. This podcast has been going on for months now and it has been doing extremely well. I have been fortunate enough to listen from the beginning.
Every week they get together and speak on whatever’s going on in the world. You’re basically guaranteed to hear something about Beyoncé at some point because they love her, as all good people do. They are really just off the cuff funny and they’re personalities blend together to make a big bucket of fun.
Every podcast they begin by talking about the week’s big headlines, not all, just the ones Kid Fury decides that they can’t ignore. Sometimes they bring in guests to comment with them. Then they go into emails from the listeners which either involve a question for one of them or, usually, asking advice. Now these people send in letters straight out of a soap opera. People finding out their kids aren’t really theirs, getting outted by family members, dealing with their hoodrat mamas, just anything and everything and Kid Fury and Crissle always have some hilarious words of wisdom. The episode always ends with their Read.
A read is basically a rant about something. Their reads are usually about something or someone that has pissed them off over the course of the week. Recently they have begun what they call Pass the Read, which is basically when one of them doesn’t have a read for the week they use one from a listener who has emailed them.
I particularly love when Crissle talks about Words Mean Things, a movement which speaks to me as a writer. Now, that sounds obvious, but unfortunately common sense is not so common so it is necessary to remind people that words mean things, meaning don’t say something and try to say that those words weren’t what you meant to say or they didn’t really mean anything.
It’s not quite set in stone when they release the podcast, though it’s usually on Friday morning. Personally, I have followed The Loud Speakers Network on SoundCloud and I listen to the show from there. You can also go to ThisIsTheRead.com to listen from the beginning and follow them on Twitter @ThisIsTheRead. Kid Fury also posts the new episodes on his blog, SoFurious.com as they come out. I recommend you give it a listen at least once. You can start with the latest episode which I have placed below. Get your life!
