The morning before Jermaine Dupri & the contestants & winners of season 1, 2 & 3 of The Rap Game all hit the Chicago Theatre stage for the So So Summer 17 Tour this past Sunday, they joined forces with William Kellibrew & the New Generation of Leaders (NXG) to orchestrate a Teen & Youth Town Hall Meeting at the DuSable Museum of African American History. Not only did the teens & youth get the opportunity to see their favorite artists up close & personal, they left feeling empowered, motivated & inspired about being a leader & following their dreams as they gained a lot of useful information they’ll be able to utilize throughout their entire lives.
Before the Teen & Youth Town Hall Meeting began, Jermaine Dupri along with season 1, 2 & 3 winners Miss Mulatto, Mani & Nova of The Rap Game took to the stage for a quick press conference to discuss The Rap Game, So So Summer 17 Tour & more.
Once the press conference came to an end, William Kellibrew introduced himself & NXG Leaders to the crowd. He educated the crowd on the mission of NXG Leaders & also shared a video of what they’ve done thus far. Kellibrew then introduced Michael Mauldi who took to the stage to introduce himself & elaborate on the importance of being a leader. Mauldi then introduce each panelist which consisted of Jeremy Green, DJ Prince, Supa Peach, Nia Kay, J.I the Prince of N.Y, King Roscoe, Lil Key, DLOW, Mani, Deetranada, Miss Mulatto, Nova & Jermaine Dupri.
After the panelists all joined Mauldi & Kellibrew on stage, Kellibrew provided the panel & crowd with a quick brain exercise that everyone engaged in & enjoyed. Kellibrew then shared the 12 Codes of Leadership & what they each mean. Once everyone was familiar with the 12 Codes of Leadership, Kellibrew asked each panelist which code of leadership they’re able to relate to. This is when the town hall meeting got really interesting & personal. The panelists used the code of leadership to discuss personal situations & obstacles that they each overcame in order to become the leader that they are today. A lot of the stories & advice the panelists shared was much needed. It gave the crowd & even some of the panelists a different perspective of others as well as themselves. The teens & youth had the opportunity to ask the panelists questions & one young lady shared how she has dreams of modeling but her aunt discourages her from doing so because of past experiences she went through. The panel encouraged her to follow her dreams as they each were able to relate to doubters & naysayers. Kellibrew provided the young lady the opportunity to “rip the runaway” in-front of the entire audience & she did just that!
As the town hall meeting came to an end, each panelist was given the opportunity to share a few words of encouragement & advice to the entire crowd about being a leader & following their dreams.
Sending a special thank you to Catrice Armstrong of PR Werks for extending an invite to us. Special thanks to NXG Leaders, So So Def Records & Scream Nation for providing our teens & youth of Chicago with a much needed town hall meeting.
