This Saturday, January 17th, the sorority Sigma Gamma Rho will host the Golden Alert town hall meeting featuring U. S. Rep. Robin Kelly & lyricist, author & hip hop pioneer MC Lyte. The meeting will be free & open to the public.
The National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) will present a workshop focusing on civic engagement and police. Along with Rep. Kelly & MC Lyte, other panelists include Jeff Dase, principal of Edward Coles Model for Excellence World Language Academy, Eugene Dillanado, businessman, and Donnie Smith, executive director of Donda’s House Inc., a nonprofit organization that she co-founded with Kanye West and Che “Rhymefest” Smith. All panelists have been charged with providing a solution based presentation to address issues impacting our youth and communities.
The event, which will be held at the Harold Washington Cultural Center, 4701 South Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, will include workshops, strategies and resources. The morning will begin with a continental breakfast at 9:30 and the program will run from 10:00 – 1:00 p.m.
The Golden Alert is a collection of sustainable community action plans that include forums and youth symposiums developed to address current community issues. The Golden Alert refers to the sense of urgency that we must all have because a precious stone or golden foundation, our community, is in jeopardy.
