Last night was the season premiere of Growing Up Hip Hop on WE TV. It’s definitely something new to television as viewers get the opportunity to witness what kids of celebrities have to go through & deal with on a regular basis. It’s not as glamorous as it seems.
GUHH was intended to show what each cast member, Angela Simmons, Romeo Miller, Kristinia DeBarge, Boogie Dash, Egypt Criss, & TJ Mizell all have their own thing(s) going on in their life & that they’re way more than just kids of famous entertainers.
Angela has always been adventurous – business wise as she has & have created several businesses. Seeing her on GUHH launching yet another fashion line is pretty neat. It’s extremely creepy & dangerous that she has to deal with a stalker – receiving strange “gifts” & unexpected appearances, yikes. Angela admits on GUHH that she’s single; however, her & Romeo have or had something going on – they seem to have feelings for one another & they never really denied anything asked about the two of them either.
Romeo has his hands full. He’s trying to embrace being young by hanging out & being in a relationship – not with Angela, but he’s father is pretty much ready to hand the entire No Limit franchise to him. That’s a lot of pressure now of its own. Not to mention that Romeo is working on additional things for himself such as his music, clothing line, acting & etc. Romeo introduces his girlfriend (at time) on GUHH, but Angela & Romeo seems to have a little special chemistry of their own – everyone on the show including their parents know something is up.
Although Boogie looks exactly like his father & may have the hustler ambition as his father, he’s still so much different from his father, Dame Dash. We all know Dame to be extremely outspoken & doesn’t mind hurting a few feelings with his truths. Boogie on the other hand comes off as a more soft-spoken person who cares about others feelings.
I can’t help but to truly feel for Kristinia. Seeing her working on her own music career but also dealing with a lot of pain from the absence of her father, James DeBarge has to be tough. Luckily her uncle, El is there for her as well as her mom, other family members & friends. Hopefully things work out well for the entire DeBarge family. But on the brighter side of things, more opportunities are beginning to happen for Kristinia – her & Angela are supposed to be collaborating soon.
Both of Egypt’s parents are legendary rappers – Pepa & Trench, wonder if she has a few bars. Egypt & her mom, Pepa have more of a friendship type bond but I’m sure when it comes down real serious business, there’s no doubt that Pepa will do what she has to do as a mother.
TJ is definitely following in his father, Jam Master Jay’s footsteps & carrying on his legacy. He’s been DJing for a while & appear to be very laid back & in the cut.
I’ll be tuned in on Thursday nights to catch each episode of Growing Up Hip Hop on WE TV.
