Well it seems that the police have gotten another dangerous man off of the streets. This time it was a 95 year old man who walked with a cane.
The police were called to a senior building near downtown Park Forest. A man by the name of John Warns was being sent to a hospital for involuntary treatment & was resisting & threatening workers & paramedics. He was armed with a knife & a cane. Reportedly he refused to put down the knife, so the police shot him with a taser gun. He still fought, so they hit him with bean bag rounds. Finally, he was sent to the hospital, where he later died.
Really? A 95 year old man who walked with a cane needed to be handled like that? He was clearly a menace to society. Who knows what would’ve happened if the police hadn’t acted with swift force. Granted the man had a knife, but damn!
If you are unfamiliar with suburban police let me enlighten you; they drive around aimlessly & when they do finally get a call, at least 3 police cars answer. They’re bored & looking for some action. I went to middle school in Park Forest & cops followed us home everyday. When they do respond, they get over excited.
My point is,I find it difficult to believe all of that was necessary to stop that one old man. Now he’s dead. The coroner confirmedthat the bean bag rounds killed him. Cops are too often overzealous when it’s unnecessary. Yet if you call to report a crime, they’re barely helpful. My brother called to report that his car had been hit & it took them forever to get to him.
I’m becoming increasingly irritated with police. Some kind of reform needs to take place. These type of situations need not happen. There is still no word on what has happened to the officers, which I’m sure means nothing.
But thanks again police officers! I’ll sleep so much better tonight knowing that John Warna is off of the streets. Rest in peace, Mr. Warna.
