Since Nicki Minaj released her latest single, ChiRaq and the saying seems to not be fading away any time soon, I felt it was only right to report this article with a new picture, that I wrote a while back but this time I would like to know from you, what’s the difference between Chicago vs. Chiraq?
Now for the past few years…I want to say at least 5 years ago, a lot of Chicagoans have been referring to this city (Chicago, Illinois) as Chiraq, Drillionis. Even other states make reference to this city as Chiraq. Why is it like that, some of you may ask? Lately Chicago has been known as the violent city. Just about everything has a violent reputation from the music, movies, TV shows, dances, neighborhoods, and even babies being born here in Chicago are known to be a little violent coming from the womb like it’s in their bloodline. I’m sure that the entire city of Chicago just didn’t wake up violent one morning and say “forget a Iraq, how about a Chiraq?” What’s wrong people? Is this just a phase? Ask yourself whats the purpose of trying to claim territories that belong to the government in the 1st place? They can come shut down any neighborhood (aka set) that they choose to at any given moment. When did killings of innocent and the hopeless become a norm? Nowadays you wonder if many people’s’ purpose in life, especially guys, is to join a gang, sell/steal a few “things” shoot/kill a few people so that they gain their “wings” and taken away from their families then one day soon all those same things will happen to you and you dead and gone but at least the will name a new gang after you. That can’t be what life is about. That can’t be what you’re actually living for. Whatever happen to wanting to be and do something positive in life and trying to touch lives instead of trying to take one. Don’t get me wrong, I love the city I was born and raised in (south side, Englewood to be exact). But all the chiraqing and drillinois movements that has been going on needs to hurry up and fade away so that the people can actually feel safe in their own neighborhoods. Like the old street saying goes “you live by the gun, you die by the gun.” But is that what you really trying to live by? How bout the biblical saying “no weapon formed against me shall prosper.” Now that sounds more reasonable. Oh no, believe me when I tell you that I’m not trying to get all biblical or anything especially when my life isn’t righteous, I actually live by Kendrick Lamar’s lyric when he says, “I am a sinner, who’s probably gonna sin again…Lord forgive, there’s something I don’t understand…”
