As a lot of you know, last night was the premiere of Aaliyah: The Princess Of R&B. Since the family of Aaliyah had nothing to do with the actual movie and may have even been against it, we will continue to respect their wishes and not mention it. No disrespect to anyone is intended. But instead, we decided to use this moment to remember Aaliyah.
Simply Brown: I remember riding in the car with my mom listening to the radio when they announced that Aaliyah’s plane had crash and her along with 8 additional passages died. I remember experiencing a moment of silence. Everyone was sad. I didn’t really know what was fully going on at the time but once I witnessed her final music video, “Rock The Boat” it definitely touched me, realizing that was some of her very last moments alive. I remember seeing Aaliyah in the movie “Romeo Must Die” and was very impressed by her acting skills. It appeared that acting came natural to her. I remember seeing her in music videos, interviews, pictures & behind the scene footage with Timbaland & Missy Elliot and recognizing the strong bond that the trio shared. I remember the public relationship that Aaliyah had with Dame Dash. Once the two got into a relationship together, they appeared to be inseparable. I remember Aaliyah D. Haughton as a singer, dancer, & actress who touched many lives and had a powerful impact in the music industry.
One of my favorite Aaliyah videos is “Try Again”:
K: I was very saddened by Aaliyah’s passing. When the I Miss You video tribute came out I cried. One In A Million was one of my favorite albums growing up. I loved her videos & always thought she seemed like a really sweet person. It was very sad that she lost her life so early, but her legacy continues to live on. Are You That Somebody continues to bring back great childhood memories. Everybody knew the choreography. I still do. I dressed up as Aaliyah my junior year of high school for celebrity day. She was incredibly beautiful & talented.
