Just last night, in case you weren’t aware, Black Girls Rock aired on BET. It was phenomenal…as it is every year. After seeing so many amazing women being acknowledge for their achievements, we didn’t to honor two women who we think that also rock!
Simply Brown: Normally I would give honor and recognition to myself but this time around I decided to put the spot light on someone else lol. Jada Pinkett Smith is the true definition of a phenomenal woman. Jada Pinkett Smith is a wife, mother, actress, singer, and businesswoman that’s been on the scene for quite sometime. What actually stands out to me about Jada is how she appears to be so humble and real…on and off the movie screen. Not that I’ve met her personally our anything but pictures speak a thousand words. It definitely appears that whenever Jada has to get buck, she’ll definitely get buck with you…I simply see it as letting people know that you are not a push over. Sometimes you have to represent but keep it classy and professional at the same time. You can also tell that her family means more to her than anything which is something I admire. I grew up watching Jada on Different World but it really wasn’t until she starred in Set It Off that I became an even bigger fan of hers. Jada and Will both put their careers on hold and has been apart of assuring their children master in whatever it is that they desire. Oh but don’t get it twisted they have been on the other side of the entertainment industry…the business side. Which you can’t be mad at…you can only respect it. Jada was quoted “I will throw my career away before I let it break up our marriage. I made it clear to Will. I’d throw it away completely.” Can you say “Real Love?” lol. Shouts out to you Jada, you definitely are a Black Girl who rocks!
K: My black girl who rocks is Angela Bassett. I don’t think that she is honored enough. She is an amazing actress & she’s played some iconic roles. From being Tina Turner, Katherine Jackson, the mother in Boyz in da Hood, & of course, Bernadine, she’s been in so many classic black films. You just know that only she could have played those roles. I still picture her every time certain Tina Turner songs come on. She’s awesome. So much poise & grace. She’s just one of those elite actresses that should be at the top of everyone’s list. She studied her craft & she’s been doing it for decades. She went to Yale & she’s been in over 70 films & tv shows. Not to mention those ridiculously toned arms & her all around beauty. I don’t think people realize just how beautiful she is. And her recent role on American Horror Story Coven… She is killing it! She is absolutely why i’ve been tuning in every week. Her intensity, the way she really becomes her character is always great to watch. She is just a stellar example of a black woman. She is 55 years old! Have you seen her lately? Aging beautifully, representing, & just being an all around diva in the best possible sense of the word. If you have not, be sure to tune in & see her on American Horror Story Coven, Wednesdays @ 10/9c.
