We are about a week into 2016 and many people have different approaches to starting the New Year. Some say new year, new me (which don’t), some say new year, new keys (by some I mean DJ Khaled), but whichever way you go with it you made it through another year, which is amazing because everything was lit & turnt up in 2015 so it could’ve gone either way. The point is the older you get the quicker these years fly by so you must grab the reigns and not just let life happen to you.
Shout out to everybody still recovering from the New Year festivities, the folks still waiting on Happy New Year texts & calls who may be realizing that they got left in 2015, those realizing how old they’re turning this year & it’s getting real, those who left the drama in 2015, but already had it phone into 2016, & everybody else on the New Year struggle. The struggle is indeed real. 2016 has been a bad year for some of y’all already. Just remember it’s only been 5 days, you get an extra day this year, Beyonce on her way back & Rihanna is bound to release that album at some point, so you’ll be alright.
Many clown the idea of New Year’s resolutions, but I think it’s a good way to start. Looking over what the last 365 meant to your life & working towards progression is a good thing. Sure, many will fizzle out in the first month, some have fizzled out already, but it’s always good to set goals for yourself to accomplish. I know personally I’m revving up for a major turn this year. Starting building momentum finishing the year strong & now I’m more than ready to make that final push to do exactly what I’ve always wanted to do. It’s not easy, little worth it ever is, but I can feel the payoff on the horizon & I’ve already got the space cleared for it.
Now some of y’all have already messed up bringing stuff into this year you know you ain’t have no business bringing with you. Y’all waiting on permission to let it go. Well liketa here’d it go: LET IT GO! It’ll be hard, but ain’t it hard keeping it in your life? Better to struggle to get over it for a little while than to struggle to keep it & let it become a long drawn out thing. It won’t work for everything. I tried to leave my winter weight in 2015, but it said “And I am telling you I’m not going”. Come my birthday Imma be fine though so whatever.
The point is there are a lot of things you have no control over, but there are also a lot of things you do. You can’t control who you had kids with, but you can control being on social media looking a fool because you’re playing “He loves me, he loves me not” every other day. You can’t always control things upsetting you, but you better control them Twitter fingers. That goes for Facebook, Instagram, SnapChat & any other social media fingers too. You can’t control the different things that life will try to throw at you, but you can watch Love & Hip Hop & realize it could be worse. That’ll at least make you feel better.
Stop letting life happen to you and start driving it instead of letting it drive you crazy. You don’t want to look up & realize too late that you should’ve been doing what you wanted to the whole time. You’re out here struggling to live up to these images & for what? I guarantee you won’t get old and be on your death bed like, “I wish I had gotten more likes on Instagram.” You’ll be like, “I wish I had done more things that made me happy.” So do that. Make that your 2016 mission. There’ll be some losses & some gains this year. I’m already mourning this being the last year of having a Black first family for at least 4 years, but I’m ready to feel the Bern, shout out to Bernie Sanders. I’m already tucking my coins away for Beyonce’s imminent return. Plus Can I Talk My Ish is about to catapult to a whole new level this year. I’m excited & I hope you are too. Speak good things into existence, then do good things to make them real. Say 2016 is your year & go get it!
