This week was upfronts for the networks. They previewed a lot of shows that will be coming to us this Fall. I saw some that I am really looking forward to.
There are many new shows, but some shows did not get renewed. I was quite upset to learn that Community got cancelled. I loved that show, even though I was a little disappointed that Donald Glover left. Still we were promised another season as well as a movie. I am not so sad to hear that Two and a Half Men is gone. I was expecting it. It just couldn’t be as successful without Charlie.
I am really excited about some other shows that look really good. One of them will be premiering next week, The Maya Rudolph Show. It will be a variety show and I am fairly sure it will be hilarious. I have thought that Maya Rudolph is funny for years. She will be bringing along a lot of other really funny people as well. I’m really looking forward to it.
Coming in the Fall is a great new line-up with a lot of brown faces. I am really excited for the extension of Shonda Thursdays. Not only am I looking forward to the return of Scandal, but there is a new show called How to Get Away With Murder starring Viola Davis and I can already tell it will be my new addiction. It is about a hardcore law professor and I can tell we have another Olivia Pope on our hands. I’m ready for it.
There is also another show called Fresh off the Boat which looks like another winner. It is about an Asian American family that moves to Florida so that the father can open a steakhouse. One of the sons is a hardcore hip hop head and the mother is just hilarious. It will be on ABC and I laughed through most of the trailer. I have put it below so you can see what I’m looking forward to.
Another show that should be interesting is Black-ish. Seeing that Laurence Fishburne and Tracee Ellis Ross are going to be starring in it really got my attention. The cast is led by Anthony Anderson and it’s going to be a family comedy.
I’m also slightly curious about the show State of Affairs. 2 words: Alfre. Woodard. And she’s the president. That’s all I need to know.
And although it doesn’t come out til next year, I’m also looking forward to the show Empire, created by Lee Daniels and starring Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson. It’s about a mogul who finds out he has 3 years to live and has to decide which of his 3 sons to leave his empire to. Other complications arise when his ex-wife, played by Taraji, gets out of jail. It looks really good. I can’t.
It looks like TV is about to get good again. Good, scripted TV. I’m happy and can’t wait to watch.
