Today is quite a day in music. A lot of pretty big artists dropped their albums today. Specifically a few major R&B artists came out today. I listened to some of these records & I’m impressed. Below I get into some of this new ish
Absolute Must Have: Love in the Future by John Legend
This album is absolutely amazing from start to finish. The songs are beautifully written and produced. I would argue that this is John’s best album to date. Yes, even better than Get Lifted. These are some good old fashioned love songs, epic and grand. There are gorgeous ballads and some true bops. Some standouts for me are Who Do We Think We Are feat. Rick Ross, All of Me, Tomorrow, Asylum, So Gone and, of course, Made To Love, whose video I reviewed a few weeks ago. Most of the songs are absolutely beautiful and masterfully crafted. I guarantee you will find at least one song to call your song with the person you love. You must add this album to your collection. I cannot say enough about. Bravo, John!
Definitely worth a listen:
Yours Truly by Ariana Grande
This album has some really good songs. My absolute favorite that I have had on loop is Honeymoon Avenue. The way the subtly added to some sections to twerk to in the song pulled me in. The song itself is just great. Ariana has a great voice; she reminds me a lot of Mariah Carey. I love her use of R&B and Hip Hop beats, such as Crush On You by Lil Kim, featured on Right There and Still Not A Player by Big Pun in The Way. It is a really solid album.
Love After War by Tamar Braxton
Obviously, Tamar came out punching with the title track Love After War. Then she hit with The One and she had me anticipating the whole album. It does kinda remind me of one of her sister Toni’s albums. Of course she had to have a track called She Did That, which actually kinda goes off. Had me twerkin real quick. The next track Hot Sugar reminds me of Harlem Shake production wise. Again had to go in real quick before I even realized it. It’s a nice, solid album. It has songs for when you’re pissed at your significant other, when y’all make up and you’re back in love and if you don’t make up and you need to take it back out to the club and find a new one. A little bit for everybody.
Jaheim and Raheem Devaughn also released albums today. Jaheim is back with Appreciation Day, which features a song called P**** Appreciation Day. Use your imagination. Raheem is back with A Place Called Love Land. Clearly some love making music.
People complain about there not being enough good old fashioned R&B and love songs, but the only way to change that is to support when it does come out. If we purchase R&B when it comes out, record companies will invest more money into it. So please support it.
The band Nine Inch Nails also dropped an album today, if you’re into them. I didn’t get around to listening to it yet, but the buzz for it is pretty good.
