“Car full of n*ggas…n*ggas here flew all out…like, where the hell we finna go n*gga…(Bad Mood).” Cassius Tae has released his 11 track mixtape, “New Beginnings” via Audiomack with an additional bonus tracks. “First of all, let’s get one thing straigthen…I am Cassius, not because that’s the name that I came with but that’s the name of greatness…(Tae’s Monologue).”
Cassius Tae, a Chicago newcomer, offers a personal and narrative-driven project in his debut album New Beginnings. Through lush and soulful production, New Beginnings is a tale of a boy attempting to remain on the straight-and-narrow while transitioning into becoming an adult. In the opening song, “Bad Mood,” Cassius starts the narrative with a flash-forward by painting a scene of his troubling environment. Throughout the story, Cassius seeks guidance, but everyone he approaches faces problems of his or her own. After enduring many hardships, he reaches his breaking point in the song “Blue.” Cassius finally turns to his girl although he turned against her in the narrative, “3:45 a.m.” Through talking to his girl and brother, Cassius believes he can make a New Beginning in life by telling his story through words. These words given to him make inspire grounded songs with painful and relatable lyrics. The first bonus song “Up All Night,” is a celebration to his newfound beginning and “From Time” is a reminder from his female interest to remember what and whom he’s doing this for. This tape aims to inspire others to turn their negatives into positives.
