We were fortunate enough to talk ish with Rap Artist…Spud Cotton!!! It wasn’t long ago when we spoke with Ray iLLa , who introduced us to the joined mixtape with Spud Cotton called, iLLz x Cotton Stand Up Guyz Mixtape. Since we had the opportunity to speak with Ray iLLa, it’s only right to hear Spud Cotton’s point of view. Lets get to know a little more about Spud Cotton…
3 Voices: Introduce yourself to the world. Let the people know who Spud Cotton is and what Spud Cotton does.
Spud Cotton: Spud Cotton is a true MC. Many people wonder where the name come from so ” Spud ” is a childhood nickname that was given to me [being] captain of the basketball team in grammar school. “Cotton” is simply my last name.
I make what you call “feel good music “. I use to sneak and watch hip hop…I was raised by my grandparents, so all I heard was Gospel music and Old School music, which all helped developed my sound.
3 Voices: What inspired you to become a rap artist? Who are some artists that have influenced your music career?
Spud Cotton: I started writing music in 7th Grade. It started with poetry which lead to me writing over instrumentals. I stole a big L verse and everyone thought it was mines in high school…since that day, I was asked to rap in between classes. I found myself actually writing my own, which then turned into me wanting to pursue this craft.
Bone Thugs N Harmony, Jay-Z, 2Pac, Big L influenced my rap career. Bone Thugs N Harmony makes that “feel good music” that I fell in love with. Jay, Pac, and Big L are all good with the lyrics in which I pride myself on.
3 Voices: We recently spoke with Ray iLLa about you guys mixtape, Stand Up Guyz. What’s your favorite single from the mixtape? Can we expect any visuals for any of the singles?
Spud Cotton: First, let me say it was a pleasure working with Ray ILLa, another Hip Hop artist I have respect for and a relationship with. My favorite singles off ” Stand Up Guyz ” is “The Freestyle” and “Feel Life” featuring TheBoy iLLinois. As you can see, those joints have the feel good vibe to them that I pride my sound on. We do plan on putting visuals to a couple joints including “The Freestyle”.
3 Voices: What’s next for you? Are there any exclusives you can share with us?
Spud Cotton: The next move for me as a solo artist is to finish up a project I been talking about for a year now. A project/ EP I may entitle “Feel Good Music “. This will be a project that will be all original…nothing but good timeless music. I will be dropping some exclusive Spud tracks in the next upcoming month.
3 Voices: How can the people reach out to you on social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and etc.?
And there you have it! You heard it all from Spud Cotton himself! Be sure to follow Spud Cotton on all of his social media accounts and be on the lookout for his upcoming project. Much success to you, Spud Cotton. Keep in touch.
