We were introduced to M-Nat via email and we have to admit his background made us want to look into his music even more. M-Nat has been through a lot of various challenges growing up. He shares many stories of things he experienced and witnessed in his life which also shows in his single, “This Side Of Town. Lets get to know a little more about M-Nat and his single, This Side Of Town…
3 Voices: Introduce yourself to the world. Let the people know who M-Nat is and what M-Nat does.
M-Nat: What’s up world. My name is M-Nat and I’m a rapper/songwriter from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. My earliest musical experiences revolved around playing instruments such as the violin and trumpet in the school band. I also grew up idolizing 2Pac and Eminem. When I was 14, I started experimenting with poetry and writing raps as a way to express myself. I needed an outlet to get away from everything since I was a loner at school and socially reserved. I’m the son of two Indian immigrants. My parents operate a small convenience store in the inner city of Milwaukee and would often take me and my brother there while working 12-hour shifts. At the store, I experienced many unique situations, both positive and negative, and it had a profound impact on my early development and musical content. My lyrics touch on personal experiences, relationships, racism, and various social issues. In 2012, I released my debut project DreamCity: The Patience which got me featured on Shade45 and HotNewHipHop’s HeatSeekers. This year I dropped my follow up project, The Rise. It features 19 songs and it’s available for free download. The fans have shown so much love so far. I think it’s some of my finest work.
3 Voices: Tell us about your single, This Side Of Town. What is the concept of the official video?
M-Nat: This Side of Town is a song that touches on this dichotomy of the rich vs poor. Specifically it’s about my hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Milwaukee has a lot of poverty and crime. People are struggling and it’s a real segregated city. The song is about how we develop these stereotypes of people based on where they come from and live. You don’t actually understand what it’s like being that person unless you walk in their shoes, on their side of the tracks. If you live in the inner city of Milwaukee, you deal with real challenging issues on an everyday basis. You look at the world around you in a different light. The video we shot for it really captures the imagery of what I intended to portray in the song.
3 Voices: What can the people expect from your album, The Rise? What will be the next single you make a visual for?
M-Nat: The Rise is an album that provokes the listener to want more for themselves. It’s a story of a young 20 something year old minority living in America trying to find his purpose. You get a nice blend of songs but this theme of The Rise is prevalent throughout the project. I want the listener to hear my hunger and relate to the content. I make music for the underdogs. That’s who I am. I’m not supposed to be here right now but I persevered. The first single I dropped was “The Rise” and we shot that video in Chicago a few months back. The second single was “No Distractions” which is a song that talks about staying focused on the end goal amidst all the temptations. This Side of Town is the new single I’m pushing. I’ll be following that up with “Shit Ain’t The Same,” which is a song that breaks down a relationship gone bad and all the various stages that lead to that unfortunate outcome. The song features the lovely, Audrey Valentine who is a talented R&B vocalist from Chicago.
3 Voices: What’s next for M-Nat? Are there any exclusives you can share with us?
M-Nat: I just want to grow my fan base and expand my outreach. I really believe in my brand and music. I know that’s cliché but I have the utmost confidence in what I do. It just has to get in the right hands. I want to touch people’s lives so that they have the inspiration they need to be great at what they do. In the meantime I’ll continue to work on new records and perform live.
