“I’m tryna free a 1000 slaves…but they don’t even know they’re free…program to think, so the mind don’t connect with the eyes, so they can see…we in the war & we losing…”
Jaymal Green has released the official visual for his single, Be Free featuring Rizzy. Jaymal & Rizzy are both from Chicago & sadly like many Black men, have experienced unlawful justice. Jaymal & Rizzy refuse to accept wrongful treatment & abuse by those whose job title is to “Serve & Protect” & have taken actions such as peaceful protest throughout Chicago for change, to be heard & to be free. Rizzy raps, “what a time to be alive in my city, cause anytime, could be the time to die in my city…man, the Mayor, he don’t care where bodies lie in the city, as long as they lie on the North Side of the city…”
Set in the backdrop of Chicago, “Be free” seeks to explore all of the corruption and issues plaguing the city including the mayors neglect of the south and west side communities that has caused a surge in violence. One of the main points is the blind eye that city officials have when it comes to young children of color dying in the city due to gun violence. The video will explore some hard to discuss issues that are continually swept under the rug. It will also symbolize Greens current position as a political prisoner here in the city.
The video will also highlight Rizzy, another well-known activist that has been subject to Chicago’s dirty politics. Both Jaymal and Rizzy are currently facing felony charges in Cook County after they say police made false accusations of assault. Green has vowed to continue to speak out despite the serious charges and intends to use the song as a tool in bringing light to not only his current issues, but also those of everyone who has been shunned and disposed of by the cities politicians.
