“I been caught up in a moment…I been movin state to state…I’m not sure what’s heavier, what’s on my mind or on my plate…but we gonna be okay…yeah we gonna be okay…(Lucid Dreaming)”
Tinashe has just released a new digital album called NightRide. It is a smooth, sensual record full of low tempo bops.
It has been quite a journey to here for TInashe. After mega hit 2 On & her successful debut album Aquarius, it seemed like she would only get bigger & brighter. There has been some stumbling since with album delays & other issues getting in the way. All along she’s kept ticking, performing, & releasing music. She released an EP which was the first clue of how she was evolving sonically. Although NightRide is not an extreme departure from Aquarius, it is much more relaxed & slightly more mature. It is a pure R&B album, far more rich & soulful than most sophomores. Tinashe did not allow the turmoil on the outside penetrate the music. She makes mention of her frustrations, but in such a way that it is more melodic than angry. Like so much good music, it feels both old & new at the same time. It’s like 90s R&B, but still has the makings of the newer, more alternative R&B. I had listened to the whole thing before I even realized it. NightRide is the perfect name for it because it definately plays like the soundtrack to a late night ride on a mostly empty road, just vibing to the music& going nowhere in particular. It’s cuffing season music, babymaking music, & a great next step for Tinashe. She has shown that she is an important part of the new class of R&B.
NightRide is available everywhere digitally. Not available in all countries yet. Check out the promo trailer & the first track Lucid Dreaming below:
