“I’m drowning in doubt & frustration…can’t sleep cuz I’m anxious..counting sheep & all…I’m sipping some liquor, go figure…getting lit with my n*ggas, cuz we done seen it all…(Shake Em Off)”
Syd has released her solo debut album entitled Fin. If you love The Internet then you will definitely love this one too.
I was a little nervous about this project, not really knowing what to expect. I absolutely adore Ego Death & wondered how Syd would stand alone without her crew. Turns out I needn’t to have worried at all. That same ol’ smooth, soft, sweet cadence comes through on Fin. The songs are personal testimonies of Syd’s experiences coming through in love songs, sensual songs, chilled out grooves, & some introspective tracks. I’ve always enjoyed the contrast between Syd’s appearance & her voice, but I think that’s what makes the music so good. The same contrast can be found in the subject matter & the voice singing about them. Some of these tracks could easily be spit by some rap dude, but the fact that it’s sung in such a pretty tone gives it a different element. Some of the songs are incredibly sexy, while others are just honest. Typically I have to run through an album a few times before I know how I feel about it, but I caught on to Fin on the first listen. I was so pleasantly surprised & the songs were so good, I almost stopped on a couple of tracks & just let them repeat before I had even listened to them all. Then by the last song I did not want it to end. I feel like the 12 isn’t enough. Whether she’s singing about the grind on songs like No Complaints & Nothin to Somethin or self-awareness on Insecurities, it’s all one great gumbo of songs that come together & paint a beautiful picture. I feel like I’ve just listened to my first favorite album of 2017. The only feature on the whole thing is with 6LACK.
Fin is currently available on all of your favorite platforms. Check out the song Body below:
