“I want…your body…cuz I never met somebody quite like you…one look…you got me…& I won’t stop til I’m laying next to you…”
Letoya Luckett has just released her third solo album entitled Back 2 Life. In this album, she is the best she has ever been.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Destiny’s Child’s debut self-titled album. 20 years later Letoya is a grown woman making grown woman music. It has been 8 years since Letoya’s last solo effort & there has been a lot of growth. As soon as I hit play on this album & the first song came in I started bopping. The production on the album is great, shoutout to Jo Blaq & YBZ, as is Letoya’s voice & the lyrical content. Throughtout the album you get a sense of Letoya finding a sense of comfort in her skin as a woman & as an artist. It is a very well put together R&B album that stretches across the landscape of relationship from Mr. Right to Mr. Right Now. Letoya hits on a few elements of break-up, but also on the excitement of meeting someone you like & falling in love. It’s a beautiful day & this album help set the mood with it’s range of danceable tracks to it’s dips into ballads. It’s music for all occasion & shows Letoya’s versatility & range. It took one full listen to feel like Back 2 Life may be one of my favorite songs of the year. No skips necessary.
Back 2 Life is available everywhere today. For all of those who love to complain that they’re not making good R&B anymore, you need to support this. Checkout the epic, mini-movie for her single Used To below:
