“…But lately baby I don’t give a f*ck…I’m sick of kissing up…I used to miss us taking pics & kissing…now you miss the club, I pull my zipper up…start to think, wait is this it for us?… (B)”
It’s been a long time coming. Finally, Jaden Smith’s debut album SYRE is here! For those who have been following his music career, it is the culmination of years of growth.
The first taste of Jaden as a rapper was on Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never. At the time it just felt like a cute thing for him to do. The first time I really paused to think he really had skills as a MC was on a song called The Coolest. He was still young, but he had the swagger & self-possession of someone you know you need to keep an eye on. Since Jaden has released quite a few songs, all of which has shown his prowess as a rapper & artist in general. SYRE is the statement an artist wants to make with their debut album. It establishes a voice. It gives deeper incite into Jaden as a young man. I’m sure people will go into it expecting one thing, which they may find in the beginning, but by the end you’ll be surprised. Somehow the 17 tracks seem to go by fairly fast. The production is incredible & Jaden’s flow is as on the money as ever. Overall I think it is a very strong debut. The album features Willow Smith, A$AP Rocky, & Raury.
SYRE is currently available through all major music retailers. Check out the new video for his single Icon below:
