“Where’d you go?…I got so used to being round you boy…I’m trying not to car, but where’d you go?…I’m doing my best to be sensible…I’m trying not to care, but… (Misery)”
Gwen Stefani has just released her 3rd solo album entitled This Is What The Truth Feels Like. It is a good, solid Pop record with the tinge of Rock and Hip Hop Gwen is usually known for.
You may know that Gwen recently ended her marriage of many years. As you would expect it is a bit of a breakup album. The songs aren’t truly slow and sad, a la Adele, but they do get into the feelings that happen when falling out of love. Songs like Misery address the difficulties of transitioning out of relationships. Still Gwen gives some bops as well. Songs like Red Flags, Asking 4 It, & Naughty give a more upbeat, dance, Rap flavor. These songs in particular remind me of songs that could have been on L.A.M.B. She takes you there in a way only Gwen Stefani can. I’m not sure what I expected or if I really had any expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the album. The only feature on it is Fetty Wap, which actually works really well.
This Is What The Truth Feels Like is available everywhere now. Listen to the opening track Misery below:
