We were fortunate enough to talk ish with Songwriter & Rap Artist…Chi City!!! Chi City is a Chicago songwriter/artist who has worked with some big names in the music industry such as B.O.B, Diggy Simmons and that’s only to name a few. Chi City is on the journey to let the world know who he is as an artist. Let’s get to know Chi City…
3 Voices: Introduce yourself to the world. Let the people know who Chi City is and what Chi City does.
Chi City: I go by name of Chi City! I’m from the Southside of Chicago…born and raised. I am a professional recording artist/song writer. I rap as well as write records for others and I’m just an all around businessman in general. It started with music but my vision is much greater.
3 Voices: What inspired you to become a rap artist? Who are some of your music influences?
Chi City: I would say the people I see everyday inspired me to become an artist, and I also love to entertain. Being an artist means being someone creative and innovative to help others feel good about themselves and the world we live in. If it effects them in a good or bad way, just depends on the situation they’re in at that time. The art of entertainment is an un-crafted art that still continue to grow every second. So that means my inspiration to be an artist is continuously growing. Some of my earlier musical influences are Kanye, Jay Z, Twista, Bone Thugs & Harmony [just] to name a few. But overall, I just love the feeling of great music and wanted to be a creator of that feeling as well as a consumer.
3 Voices: You’re also a songwriter who has worked with artists such as B.O.B, Diggy Simmons and so many others. What songs did you work on?
Chi City: Well, the whole writing process of publishing is a lot different sometimes than people think. Because in the beginning you do so much work that you don’t get the credit for doing. On the outside, it’s like “yo, who did that?” but behind closed doors they know you’re someone to go to if they want some heat. It’s no different from anything else you gotta work for that title belt. As far as Diggy Simmons, I worked on earlier mixtapes, and singles more than one particular record. It ranges from hooks [and] track references…it’s the whole 9 when it comes to writing. It’s more than just one person in the studio giving ideas but if you just starting off its usually the bigger names [who] get writing credits. That’s pretty much the same for B.O.B. but times have changed tho, you have a lot of no names with #1 records now, so I got some stuff in the works. I’m coming for that title!
3 Voices: Who would you like to feature on one of your tracks? Are you currently working with any other artists at the moment?
Chi City: As far as features go, I would love to work with Chance the Rapper, Kanye, Jay Z, and maybe like 4 or 5 others. It’s not too many artists that I would want to work, but I’m open to work with anyone. It’s not that I have anything against any other artist, it’s just everyone has their top go-to-list and [it’s] just not as many on mines. That’s all.
3 Voices: You recently release the official music video for Overdose, Freestyle over Schoolboy Q’s Yay Yay. Tell us about Overdose and the video?
Chi City: Just something to keep the people entertained. I actually heard the instrumental before I heard the original song, but I became a fan of the production then went back and heard the song and was like “I gotta do this record”. The visual came about just because I feel we are in an age where most people want to see you just as much as they [want to] hear you. So I got a few people together and we made it happen.
3 Voices: What’s next for Chi City? Are there any exclusives you can share with us?
Chi City: It’s a lot in the works right now. Gearing up for tour around July/August with a few known artists but we still working the paperwork out as of now. Really focused on releasing singles throughout the rest of the summer going into the Fall. A lot of visuals on the way and just really expanding and building the brand more. A few other things in the works as far as business wise but we gone be patient and stay focus for the time being.
3 Voices: How can the people reach out to Chi City on social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and etc.?
