We were fortunate enough to talk ish Singer…Sebastian Mikael!!! Sebastian is the true definition of an international music artist. He was born & raised in Sweden then eventually moved to the United States to pursue his dreams as a music artist. Since then, Sebastian has worked with artists such as Rick Ross, Wale, Teyana Taylor and etc. Lets get to know Sebastian Mikael…
3 Voices: You have had a great deal of success as an artist. At this point in your career, what would you say has been your most memorable experience thus far?
Sebastian Mikael: I would have to say…headlining my first tour was probably the biggest thing I did. I mean it wasn’t a big tour, it was an independent tour…I’m in independent artist but knowing that we put it together ourselves and seeing the support that we got from it just kind of showed me that I got people who really care for what I do and it’s just not about ‘oh I gotta break it out…it was hot for a little bit’.
Some people know me or whatever but I actually saw that I had true fans and people who was really a part of the movement. That was one of those moments that you [have] to soak in. You really gotta be thankful that you came this far. That’s what I kind of told myself. That was definitely one of those moments.
3 Voices: Take us back to when you first realized your talent. What inspired to you become an artist?
Sebastian Mikael: When I first decided to do music and being an artist was what I wanted to focus on…I really was just inspired by other artists that were already doing it. Seeing what they were doing with music and how they affected other people. Growing up, one of my biggest inspirations was Pharrell because I like that he stayed original with everything he did. And he was also inspiring other people by encouraging other people and breaking down boundaries and showing that really anything is possible. That’s something that I really care about as an artist. I never want to just jump on the train and do what somebody [else] was doing. I really believe in breaking down boundaries and showing something that hasn’t been done before…and always trying to be original and staying true to [yourself]. I think that’s the most important [part] as an artist. That’s what kept me going. That’s what kept me motivated and one of the things that keeps me motivated, ya know.
3 Voices: Who are some artists that have influenced your music career? Who are some artists you listened to growing up?
Sebastian Mikael: Like I mentioned, Pharrell is one of the people…as a producer, as an artist from N.E.R.D, his group as well definitely inspired me. I was listening to a lot of Bob Marley growing up [and] Sade. My parents use to listen to them so it kind of came to me naturally like it was playing in my house regularly growing up so I just fell in love with their music early on. And I was listening to MJ of course…Neyo, Usher, to name just a few.
3 Voices: You have worked with many well-known artists such as Rick Ross, Wale, Teyana Taylor & etc. Who are some artists, that you may or may not have had the opportunity to work with so far that you would like to at this point?
Sebastian Mikael: I definitely want to work with…I said this for like a year, kind of like I got to make this happen but I want to work with Jhene Aiko. I did a show with her, it was last summer actually, I met her for the first time she was super, super cool. It was cool being on the same bill with her [and] getting to like just chop it up with her about music and whatever, whatever. But I haven’t gotten to the point where I can work with her. But she’s definitely one of the artists…even if I don’t get to work with her, she’s one of the artists that I definitely admire. I think that she’s different…she’s doing her own thing. I think her latest album was incredible. Her first EP was good too but definitely her latest album was incredible. I like what she stands for.
Other than that…it’s a lot of people. I just like working with creative minds. Like Kanye would obviously be someone I would love to get in the studio with. Pharrell, definitely. That would be a dream come true of course. And J.Cole. Those are probably the tops that I could see myself working with.
3 Voices: On Valentine’s Day, you released your latest single, “Mine”. Tell us about “Mine”.
Sebastian Mikael: I came up with that song…it’s one of those feel good [songs]. Obvious when I made it, it was during the summer time. And it comes from my own experience of when you start dating somebody and you really, really start getting into that person…the girl or whatever. You kind of just expressing that feeling, that moment and it’s just a feel good song that I felt was perfect to release on Valentine’s Day.
Right now, it’s definitely one of my favorites as far as the way it makes me feel. I’m happy to see that a lot of people are rocking with it and a lot of people are relating to it. And also it’s inspiring a lot of other people. More importantly I want to show more artistry for myself as far as like style wise. I like to be innovative and I feel this song doesn’t sound like anything else…like it’s very original the way it sounds. Yeah, and I was happy to see they even started playing it on like Sirius and The Heat and all these stations. That was great because that really showed me that the song was definitely intended for radio. It was a song that I enjoyed making and I wanted to put it out for my fans. And to see people actually show support and really rock with it.
3 Voices: And will there be an official visual for Mine?
Sebastian Mikael: Right now, I’m actually focusing on my project and we’ve done a few visuals. Mine is actually not one of the visuals but I’m coming out with a few new visuals soon. And I’m currently working on my project so hopefully I can shoot a visual for “Mine” too. That would be dope! But right now we have some other songs I haven’t put out yet but I’m not going to release the songs before the visuals. I want to actually come with the visual and the song at the same time. Just put the whole thing out.
3 Voices: What’s next for you? Are there any exclusives you can share with us?
Sebastian Mikael: Right now…I’m getting ready to get on a tour. I can’t really announce the tour yet, but all I can say is that, it’s probably going to be one of the biggest looks for me so far and I’m kind of just waiting for the details so I can eventually announce it. That’s what I’m really waiting for. But yeah, just excited about that and just being on the road and performing a lot more. And obviously my project that I’m working on…to me the best I’ve done so far. I really feel attached to this project. I really feel that it’s super personal for me and the people who I have played it for so far has really been rocking with it too and feeling the same way. I’m definitely excited about that too.
Like I said, just more music. That’s what people can expect this year. It’s about more music and a lot more content, period.
3 Voices: When can the people expect to hear your upcoming project?
Sebastian Mikael: We have the visuals that we are putting out as a part of the project so those are going to be the opening for the project. Just putting out the visuals for it. My plan is to actually have it as a EP, so it’s 6 songs and my goal is to have a visual for every single song. I wanted it to be a story with the whole EP and I want every song to feel like a movie. Where it’s more than a song you play on soundcloud, it’s like something that you really…you’re hearing the song, you’re relating to what I’m saying but you’re also seeing what I’m trying to portray with [each] song. That’s what we’re getting ready to do right now.
