We were fortunate to talk ish with Chicago’s very own up and coming female rapper, singer and songwriter…ACstyle!!! ACstyle may be an up and comer but she has definitely been making a name for herself in the music and business industry. Let’s get to know ACstyle…
3 Voices: Let the people know who exactly ACstyle is & what ACstyle does.
ACstyle: I am ACstyle, a singer, rapper, songwriter and entrepreneur.
3 Voices: What inspired you to be not only a rap artist but also a singer? When did you begin rapping? When did you begin singing?
ACstyle: When I was younger I would write lyrics and perform songs at talent shows and open mics just to get myself out there. It was really my middle school peers who made me realize I had this talent. After high school, that was when I started taken my passion seriously and I turned it into a career. I saw there were not a lot of female rappers in the industry as it is, plus there really aren’t that many female rappers/singers/songwriters all in one. I want to be the celebrity icon that young girls can look up to and say this is somebody they want to be like when they grow up. I couldn’t let this career opportunity pass me by, so I started investing in myself and growing as an artist, I started gaining a huge fanbase with teenagers, college students and adults all the way to 50 years old.
3 Voices: How would you describe your music? Who are some people that have musically influenced you in the industry?
ACstyle: My music genre is mainly hip-hop, however I crossover to R&B and Pop as well. I want to stand out and be different, that after all is one of the reasons my name is ACstyle. But I’m known as a hip-hop rapper and singer because I’m usually singing over hip-hop beats or hip-hop tempos whether it be fast or slow. I’ve done R&B songs though and I’ve enjoyed them. But I’m all about being versatile and lasting long in this industry as a legend. I don’t want to be a one hit wonder like most of the artists out now in days.
Artists such as Alicia Keys, Aaliyah, Kendrick Lamar, Keri Hilson, Ciara, Eve, MC Lyte and Da Brat really influenced me in the industry and one day I hope I can meet them. But the ones that I’ve actually met that inspired me to go into this industry are Nicki Minaj, Ke$ha, Trey Songz, Shawnna, Newsense of The Legendery Physodrama and more, because I look up to them as an inspiration, not only that but also my fans tell me every day that I am an inspiration to them so that means a lot to me.
3 Voices: Who are some people that you worked with or would like to work with that are in the music industry?
ACstyle: I haven’t really worked with that many big names yet, because I really was focusing on getting known and my music out there first. But now I’m ready to work with a few big name artists. Shawnna is one of the artists I’m planning to feature on one of my next singles, I’m just waiting to go over the marketing plan and some bears with my label and team first. I also eventually want to work with artists like Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Drake, Trey Songz, Ciara, Keri Hilson, Alicia Keys and more.
3 Voices: We noticed that you have been on a few scenes with another Chicago native, Shawnna. How did the two of you link up and what is some advice that she has given you about this music industry?
ACstyle: I actually met her for the first time earlier this year at this venue in Chicago called The Rap Factory. We took a few pictures together and chatted together. Then we linked up again when I opened up for her in Danville, Illinois back in July. It was pretty dope because as one of the people I look up to in this game, she actually watched me while I performed and told me I did a good job after I got off stage. Then recently on September 16th we all were all in VIP at the Red Kiva downtown. She’s given me some good advice about this industry, she said make sure you have an entertainment lawyer if you don’t already have one, work with the other female artists from our city, and last but not lease she told me I know you’re going to make it, it’s going to happen. So that really meant a lot hearing that from her seeing that she believes in me. And I totally agree that there needs to be more unity amongst female artists in the game and more of us in the game since it’s a male dominated industry. I miss the days where a lot of the female rappers united in the game and there wasn’t just one main celebrity female rapper act over all the others.
3 Voices: Just recently you performed during the 2013 BET Hip-Hop Awards Pre-Show in Atlanta. What was that experience like? Did you have a chance to meet and talk with any artists who were part of the show?
ACstyle: It was quite an experience, a lot of people tried to interview me after I got off stage, a lot of artists, A&Rs and people were in attendance. Atlanta really was rocking with my music so it really felt good to be able to start getting a buzz down there, and the DJ’s started spinning my music this past weekend at some of the parties. It feels good to know that I’m living my dream, and it’s crazy how 4 years ago this is the person that I wanted to be. I didn’t really get to talk to that many artists because of all that was going on, and the fact I had to rush from place to place because of all the events going on this past weekend but all in all I’m blessed I could experience this and I had a lot of fun.
3 Voices: What’s next for ACstyle? Are there any exclusives that you would be able to share with us far as new albums, tours, and etc.?
ACstyle: I have a huge concert at The Olympic Theater in Cicero, Illinois October 26th and people can actually start purchasing tickets today for only $12.00. It’s an all age event, and I have a few opening acts that will open the show. You can purchase online tickets at: www.aftonshows.com/ACstyle or you can order physical tickets that will ship to your house in 1-4 Business Days by emailing Acstyle@sinsitymusicgroup.com. I also have a Halloween Concert in Hollywood coming up in October, My Tour Starts in Late November, I’m going to start working on my new single soon. In December I’m planning on performing Live in NYC after they start spinning my music in rotation out there. The album will be coming in 2014. I will also be re-releasing the music video of my #1 Single this year Almost Famous very soon.
