We were fortunate enough to talk ish with Rapper/Singer/Songwriter…Anthiny King. Anthiny is an amazing new artist who has been dropping some pretty dope music for quite some time now. He has made an appearance on the BET Awards Hip Hop Cypher, as well as, garnering the attention of artists like Jill Scott and working with some artists who are legends in their own right. We have listened to his songs and we love them. He’s definitely an artist to watch. Let’s get to know Anthiny…
3 Voices: Introduce yourself to the world. Let the people know who Anthiny King is and what Anthiny King does.
Anthiny King: Hello, I am Anthiny King. I am a rapper and singer from Harlem. I do Hip Hop, R &B, Jazz, Funk, many genres. I have an old school vibe, but still with my own new twist on it. I’m just a young man making music and trying to make it.
3 Voices: You have the gift of being able sing and rap. What inspired you to become an artist? Who are some artists that have influenced you musically?
Anthiny King: I listened to Kanye West’s “College Dropout” when it came out and that really got me started writing music. That was when I realized I really wanted to do it. I started studying hip hop & doing spoken word. I realized I had the gift to both rap and sing. After that I started really working on my music & honing my craft. Artists like Kanye, Wayne, and Drake who rap and sing really set the stage for me. I make real hip hop music and have always looked up to artists like that. I was also influenced by Jay Z. I named my mixtape, “Black Cassette” after The Black Album. I am just a fan of hip hop and that pushes me to go hard. I’m inspired by both the classic artists and the dudes that go hard now.
3 Voices: You’re featured on Fabolous “Live For Today” single along with Jadakiss, Bun B and Rob Zoe. Tell us how that collaboration happened?
Anthiny King: I got involved with some producers, Sean C and LV who offer unknown artists the opportunity for exposure. The song was a part of their mixtape Loud Dreams Vol. 1. I ended up being on a mixtape with some great artists and being on a song with living legends. It was amazing to get the opportunity to be on a song with Fabolous, Jadakiss, Bun B, and Rob Zoe. It’s one of those things you wait for. As the singer I really got to standout. It was my first major feature with people in the industry.
3 Voices: Tell us about your mixtape Black Cassette.
Anthiny King: Like I said, the name was inspired by Jay Z’s The Black Album. It was produced by my in house producers the Teen Titans, who are Dre Charles and Nick Paradise. We built this album over a 4 month period. It’s influenced a lot by vintage hip hop and R&B. We mixed in some Jazz, Funk and other elements to bring a very classic sound. It was also inspired by Boom Bap, you know a different kind of hip hop from like A Tribe Called Quest. I was trying to really put out my own unique sound and mix in the old with the new. I wanted to create something away from the norm. I wanted to create something different from anything else out there. I got to work with Loaded Lux, which was huge from me. He’s an infamous & incredible Harlem battle rapper so bringing that in was amazing. It was like a dream come true. I’m rapping a lot more on the tape, showing off my MCing skills, just mixing in a little singing. The mixtape has gotten a lot of love and some great reviews. I worried how it would be received, because it’s such a personal project, but it feels good to have it out and getting love from the people.
3 Voices: Tell us about your recently released single, We Like featuring Niko. Can we expect a visual soon?
Anthiny King: The idea came from the memes on Instagram where people say “He be like…” and “she be like…”. This song is kind of a play on that, basically saying what we be like and what we like. Niko and I were just in the studio working and the record came about. I held onto it for a while til the time was right. Shout out to Marvino Beats for producing.
We may be doing a video for it in the future. Right now, I’m working on videos for a few other songs that I have out right now. I’m working on releasing a video for the song On the Westside I did with Loaded Lux. I’m also working on 365. In the future we may try to get together and work on the video for We Like.
3 Voices: What’s next for you? Are there any exclusives you can share with us?
Anthiny King: I dropped my mixtape Black Cassette a few months ago, so that’s out there. Like I said I’m working on a few videos right now. Traveling trying to get to the fans. I release a new song the first of every month. I’m just working, trying to get my name out there. This new record with Nick Paradise and Dre Charles called Dice Roll just came out and it’s some heat. Look out for the remix of that record. Just making music. I’m out here.
3 Voices: How can the people reach out to you on social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and etc.?
Anthiny King: I have a site called anthinyking.com. It’s Anthiny King on everything. @AnthinyKing on Twitter, @Anthiny King on Instagram. Anthiny King on Facebook, SoundCloud, and Youtube. I’m the only one who spells it with an ‘i’ so it’s not hard to find me.
And there you have it! You heard it all from Anthiny King himself! We believe he is going to take off, so keep a look out for him. Go check Anthiny out on SoundCloud, YouTube and download Black Cassette at audiomack.com/album/anthiny-king/blackcassette or go to anthinyking.com for more links.
