We were fortunate enough to talkish with Rap Artist…Shonny Nicole!!! Shonny Nicole is on the path to dominate in the rap game, she even carry the title as “The Rap Goddess”. Shonny Nicole has proven that she can definitely rap by listening to the lyrics in her most recent single, Versatility. Lets get to know Shonny Nicole…
3 Voices: Introduce yourself to the world. Let the people who Shonny Nicole is and what Shonny Nicole does.
Shonny Nicole: Honestly, I just feel like I’m the best female rapper but everybody don’t know that yet…that’s how I see it. I feel like this what’s best for me…it’s not even about the fame.
3 Voices: What inspired you to become a rap artist? Who are some rap artists who have influenced your music career?
Shonny Nicole: I can honestly say [artists] like Nicki Minjai…Lil Wayne, really. I didn’t always rap, I use to write poems. I like music so I started [to rap]. [At my old job], people heard me and they were like ‘you should really that this serious tho, you be going off’. I like ‘I got you” and so I started taking it serious.
3 Voices: What are some of the most challenging things you face being a young female rap artist? How do you look past those obstacles to pursue a career in music?
Shonny Nicole: I feel like the whole exposure thing. I feel that’s irreverent, if you can really rap then rap….that shouldn’t even matter tho about all the negativity in it. [A lot of rappers] don’t know how to make clean songs, they just throwing stuff on you and at you. I feel like they make it hard for me because females like that stuff and I don’t know why they like that. Like they don’t wanna hear the truth, they wanna hear them being broke down and other negative.
I tell them about it in a whole different way. Can’t no female rap like me, they can rap but not like I can. They can’t even get on my level. They can put a song together but not like I can. [A lot of artists] just be making up stuff…be coming up with anything. I don’t really make up things, I rap about things I experienced.
3 Voices: You carry the title of “The Rap Goddess.” What makes Shonny Nicole stand out from other rap artists? What are some things you typically rap about?
Shonny Nicole: I don’t really take that name to the heart; I just put it [out there] just like how other people put it out there. Some dudes that rap really good, call themselves the “rap god”, even Eminem said he’s a rap god. I can’t really carry that title because I’m not a dude…so I said “The Rap Goddess”. The title fits me and everything, I ran with the title just like everyone else did. People don’t even understand like… people make songs just to make songs. It just be making me mad about how simple they make the songs. Do so much more…like [really] do so much more. They just waste deep nowadays.
I typically rap about my everyday life…where I come from, just how everything gone be in the future. How I’m gone take care of my family, and how things aren’t gone always be like this…how things are gone get better.
3 Voices: Tell us about your single, Versatility.
Shonny Nicole: I came up with [Versatility] outta nowhere. I was basically like, ‘man, I aint got no [new] songs’ so I came up with that and my friend got me the beat. I actually put [Versatility] together the day before I went into the studio. It had some cockiness to it…you know I wanted to make a statement with that single, to let my audience know what I’m capable of lyric wise. To let everybody know I got it and its no longer in question and they reaction was just clarification. I got a lot of people watching me now…waiting on my next.
3 Voices: What’s next for Shonny Nicole? Are there any exclusives that you can share with us?
Shonny Nicole: I got a new single that’s coming out…I don’t know what it’s called [yet]. I wrote the first verse and right now I’m on the second verse. It’s gone be cold! I got somebody name, Gold Haze producing it and it’s going to be cold! I feel like it’s going to be a banger too…people just have to start hearing me and start watching me.
