We were fortunate to talk ish with Chicago’s very own…F.L.O!!! F.L.O. has been involved with music at a young age and is still striving to make it to the top. F.L.O definitely doesn’t show any signs of slowing down anytime, matter of fact he keeps get better. Let’s get to know F.L.O….
3 Voices: For those who may not know, tell everyone who F.L.O. is & what you do?
F.L.O.: F.L.O. is just a young God in the making. Someone who finally realized what it is he is supposed to do. From Chicago. Spent half of my life in Harvey, IL. What I do is create great music by rapping and “autotuning” as I like to call it.
3 Voices: You’re still young, but you started out at 15. What brought you to rap music & how did you know it was what you wanted to do so early?
F.L.O.: Well to clear up things I actually started rapping seriously at 19. I was creating at 15 but only to pass time. One of my homies heard some of my work and told me “Bro you got something. You can actually spit for real”. I never had intentions on being a rapper, let alone doing anything musically. I was focused on playing ball and having a career doing that. Obviously that didn’t go as planned so I said F@ck it I’m going to start rapping again and here I am.
3 Voices: Who are some of your music influences? What makes F.L.O stand out from other rap artists especially up and coming artists?
F.L.O.: My main influences are Jay Z, Kanye, Nas Big and Pac of course. Kendrick Lamar, Drake and Wale are some other influences. I’m not like other artist coming out of Chicago. No disrespect to them but I can’t just sit and make trap/drill music. I want to capture the mind of my listeners by creating stories that they can relate to and we all know everybody isn’t trapping. So I speak for the people preferably to the young. Telling them what I go through and how I came out. Chase yours. BE different.
3 Voices: You’ve been thru a few labels & tried to work with a group. What was that experience like & what did learn from those experiences?
F.L.O.: I’ve tried a couple independent labels before signing to The Committee Music Group. Before them I tried to do the group thing with my homies in Minnesota, probably some of my highest times literally. We used to record in a dorm room when I was back in school. Truth be told that’s where I developed my work ethic. Having others push me to work harder was helpful. Unfortunately I dropped out and went solo. I’m still down for a reunion though. Shout out OBS!!
3 Voices: You released a mixtape called RNR or Real Nigga Repoiture. What inspired it & what was the response to it like?
F.L.O.: RNR was my first real solo mixtape. I named it Real N@gga Repertoire because of the type of music I know I could make. Something real. It got a positive response from the people that actually listened to it. Just a all around good tape.
3 Voices: You have a new mixtape coming out. Tells us about it. What inspired it & what can people expect from it?
F.L.O.: I recently just dropped my 3rd EP entitled “Everything Is Real”. In January I lost my mother and I went into a real dark time in my life. I also had my son in April which uplifted me to get back at it and do it for real. That’s why I named it that because in this year alone everything literally got real for me. Everything Is Real is the best EP out of Chicago this year period. I’ve encompassed every aspect of Chicago rap as well hip hop itself. It got songs for the winners, the smokers, the hip hop heads, the real, the young, the women, and for whoever I missed. Download it now on DatPiff.
3 Voices: What’s next for F.L.O? Are there any exclusives that you can share with us?
F.L.O.: Right now I’m working on a few different things. I don’t want to give anything away but just remember the word ‘Timeless.’
3 Voices: How can the people reach out to F.L.O on social media sites (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and etc.)?
F.L.O: Follow me on Twitter @DaOnlyFlo on IG @FLO_TCMG. Get at me! Thank you all for the feature!
And there you have it people! You heard it all from F.L.O himself! Make sure you download his mix tape Everything is Real http://www.datpiff.com/
