We were fortunate enough to talk ish with Rap Artist, Filthy Rich!!! During our interview, we were able to discuss how Filthy Rich came up with the name “Filthy Rich”, music, his upcoming project, Reservoir Dog & much more. Just recently, Filthy Rich released a new single, called W.T.F.Y.W.4. which is an acronym for What The F*ck You Waiting For. Lets get to know Filthy Rich…
3 Voices: Introduce yourself to the world. Let the people know who Filthy Rich is and what Filthy Rich does.
Filthy Rich: Mobb in da building!!! My name Filthy Rich. I’m an artist from the south suburbs of Chicago
3 Voices: How did obtain the name, Filthy Rich? What’s the significance of your stage name?
Filthy Rich: First off, It’s not just a stage name, its been my name in and out of music for a long time. I originally got the name as a shorty. We were drunk, eating in the parking lot of a Wendy’s one Friday night and I dropped my burger on the ground. So, being I was drunk, I tried to pick it up real quick an still eat it and one my guys yelled “Man that’s dirty!” and another one, playing around, followed up with “Nah that’s Filthy!” cuz my government name is Richard. I just embraced it, and ran with it, and it’s been my name ever since.
3 Voices: Lol! That’s a funny story. What inspired you to become a rap artist?
Filthy Rich: The music inspired me. I been in love with it since I was a shorty. It’s really the only thing I ever wanted to do. The only thing I could see myself doing.
3 Voices: Who are some music artists you listened to growing up?
Filthy Rich: A lot of the greats. Nas will always be the GOAT to me. B.I.G. and Pac, obviously. Wu-Tang and Mobb Deep. Dre and Snoop. Tha Dogg Pound. Too Short. Brotha Lynch Hung. UGK. Spice 1. Mc Eiht. The Geto Boys. Outkast. The Dayton Family. Gangsta Pat. Three Six Mafia. And of course all the local artists, Twista, Do Or Die, Crucial Conflict, Psycho Drama, Drama Ward, Common, man I could go on an on. It was a great era for rap music.
3 Voices: What are some things you discuss in your music?
Filthy Rich: I always keep my music personal so you always gonna hear things I’m goin through, and dealing with in my life. I try to stay conscious of different social and political issues so you’ll hear some of that come out too. I’m not afraid to send a message through a song. Or I may tell a story to dig deeper into a certain situation or condition people living with to help shed light on it. Or I might just get on my lyrical work to flex on some bars.
3 Voices: Tell us about your upcoming mixtape, “Reservoir Dog”?
Filthy Rich: It’s actually going to [be] my 2nd full LP, and my fourth overall project. Man, I’m just hittin em with these records. There really ain’t nothing else to it. Just do my thing, and put it out there for who feeling it.
3 Voices: Is there an official release date for Reservoir Dog just yet?
Filthy Rich: Not an exact date. I’m beginning the bulk of the recording for it this week. I’m looking at a fourth quarter release. Until then, I’m gonna keep promoting these records/videos to make sure the anticipation is where it need to be for the release.
3 Voices: What’s next for you? Are there any exclusives you can share with us?
Filthy Rich: I don’t wanna give away too much. I got a couple high powered features lined up to hit the streets with, and that’s where the focus is right now. You never know, though.
