We were fortunate enough to talk ish with Rap Artist & Entrepreneur…Jay Royal!!! Jay Royal is a guy of many, many, many talents. Jay Royal is a rap artist, health & fitness trainer, owner of Royal Flush Entertainment, owner of Royal Flush Clothing, Model, Actor, and Philanthropist who does not show any signs of slowing down anytime soon. Lets get to know Jay Royal…
3 Voices: You have your hands in a lot of pots through a couple of different industries. Can you just give us a summary of everything Jay Royal is involved in?
Jay:First and foremost I have what we call Royal Flush Life. It’s my entertainment company/philanthropy work/health and fitness. Basically everything sunken into one, under the umbrella of Royal Flush. So that’s my label, my entertainment company; pretty much everything that I stand by. Music is first and foremost. That’s my way of appealing to the masses, getting into the cities, and handling the entertainment side of things; keeping people smiling and moving. But outside of that we try to push the day to day positivity of spreading goodness, whether it be through charity work or motivating the kids, motivating the females in the domestic violence shelters. Just trying to uplift as many people as possible while having a good time and enjoying life to the max.
3 Voices: Tell us about Jay Royal the rapper. How did you get started in hip hop and how would you describe your music?
Jay: I was born and raised in the Bronx. I’m from New York. It’s an argument depending on who you talk to, but Hip Hop was born in NYC. Being of Jamaican and Latin descent, having the Caribbean ethnicity and being from New York, it’s been in my blood since day one. I always had the drive. I always loved music, but it wasn’t until about a year now that I decided that I wanted to pursue it 110%. Before, when I had my kids, my goal was to basically just make sure there was food on the table. Once I got to a point in life where I was comfortable, I get follow my dreams and take a gamble on what I really wanted to do which was make music, entertain, and put smiles on people’s faces, just make them feel good. That’s when I decided to go full steam ahead with the music.
It’s been good so far. My sound is a little different from what you’re used to. I try not to have just one path. Again I like to fall back on my Jamaican and Latin heritage, so you’ll hear a lot of Reggae baselines in my music to try to keep people moving. I have a really soulful personality also so I have a really crazy female following across the world based on my woman empowerment movement. So I like to talk to my ladies through words and just basically show them that they are better than certain situations that they’re dealing with. At the same time I try to encourage my brothers to also treat the ladies in a better light. And then I have my music that, we can’t deny that sometimes there’s just tracks that you want to shake to, so I got to make that too to get the clubs popping. I got an even mix of almost every style of hip hop that you come across, whether it be conscious, whether it be something to shut the club down, whether it be something to talk to the ladies, whether it be something you want to bump in the whip in Miami, I try to come from every angle.
3 Voices: Tell us about Royal Flush, the clothing line/lifestyle brand.
Jay: That was just another way for me to try to keep in people’s heads. People entertain you when you’re in front of their face, but the minute you’re not around kicking as much wisdom as you can kick, it’s sort of like out of sight, out of mind. So I figured if we could get the clothing line out there with people wearing the name on their backs it would more encourage them to live that lifestyle. I basically call it the Royal Flush lifestyle, meaning just everything. Everything you do, you’re doing it to the max. You’re doing it 110%. But at the same time trying to do it in your most positive way possible and more importantly, trying to bring as many people as you can bring into that path as well. So that was the mindset behind the Royal Flush clothing line to just reinforce that vibe all day long, whether you hear my voice or not. If you’re wearing the clothes you already know what the mindset is. Bigger than that, half of every sale that goes into that clothing line, those funds are donating, so when I touch these cities, like when I’m in Chicago we hit the children’s hospital, we hit animal shelters, we touched the domestic violence shelter and dropped off supplies, necessities, cash donations and more importantly just time. Rather than just asking for funds to help donate, I’d rather give somebody a product that they can purchase and then I take the funds and donate it how I see fit.
3 Voices: You are also a fitness expert, currently on the Raise the Roof Fitness Tour. Tell us about your work and how your particular fitness brand is.
Jay: Oh yeah, so bigger than the tours and everything else that I do…my livelihood revolves around health and fitness because again just trying to spread that good vibe. You can’t do good all day and not take care of yourself. That’s pretty much what brought me on the path that I am on now, the day that I took my health, my body, and my temple seriously. Pretty much that’s what I do if I’m not in the studio making music, if I’m not on tour, if I’m not in the club…shutting down the club. I have one of the biggest training programs that hit the country ever as basically being spread like wild flower right now. I have trainers and I train personally, we have a chain of gyms on the East Coast, and pretty much I’m just starting to tour with the idea of bringing that to the internet where I can possibly train and keep people eating better by dieting and nutrition. Keep them mentally motivated to also follow their health and its regiment. It’s not just mental, it’s about what you; it’s about the physical also. I’m just basically trying to be that One Stop Shop for everybody rather it be the body, the heart, the soul, the mind or the time of day that they go let loose and have a good time. I want to be that dude that just make sure everyone is on their A game.
3 Voices:How did you come up with Royal Flush Entertainment? What are some of the things coming out of Royal Flush Entertainment?
Jay: Royal Flush originally started as a bike club, I am a big time motorcycle dude as you can say. I’ve been riding bikes since I was 11 years old. I really wasn’t riding with anyone, I tried to stay away from the whole clubs and crews. I figured I basically start my movement with like-minded individuals that felt an interest or felt that they were compatible with the way that I move and the way that they move and they can definitely be a part of it. Royal Flush Bike Club was a spur from that and that just took life of its own. That’s pretty much where all the good work came from, any city you go to would have a stigma of being the rogue or the rebels in the community and it’s not necessarily like that. I know thousands of bike riders and they’re all stand up dudes like me, they’re all good fathers, they’re all hardworking men, they’re all staples in the community. That’s when we tried to take the Royal Flush Bike Club and we just started doing good, while we doing what we love the most which is riding motorcycles and then everything just started building from that from the bike club to health and fitness, started doing the music, clothing line, the philanthropy and the donations, everything kind of spurred from that. In the game of poker, the royal flush is the best hand, nothing beats a royal flush! So that’s pretty much the deal, the lifestyle that I want to live…the lifestyle that I knew for a fact that I was the best hand. Anything that I did, any actions that I made in life, I knew that I did it to the best of my ability and there was nothing that could top it. And pretty much that my crew are individuals that feel the same way, not necessarily saying we’re better than anybody else, but at the end of the day, we want to go to bed at night knowing that that’s the
Best Hand we were dealt which is what I encourage everybody in the world to do on a daily basis.
3 Voices:What is next for Jay Royal? Are there any exclusives you can share?
Jay:To be honest, I don’t want to bite off more than I can chew and I am almost in that situation where I am overwhelmed. There’s a million and one things that my mind is, I don’t even sleep at night. I’m up all night always thinking, “what else can I do, what else can I add, what more can I give?” I want to be perfect at everything I deliver, I’m kind of where I am at…I just want to perfect everything that we got going right now but there are a couple of things are on the table. On a daily basis the fact that I do have a reputation doing things so strategically, well-planned and executed, I always have somebody else a good idea if they want to run pass me. There are a couple things on the table right now that I am definitely entertaining. It’s not always about money and how much money I am going to benefit because I could end up biting into that and in everything else I could start giving half of what I usually give which is a 110% potential. Beside of the music and health & fitness, I have a website on working on right now mybodybyjason.com which is going to be basically my way of training the world, adding personal training, dieting, nutrition to the world. We have the jayroyal.com website that basically has all the information about my music tour, which cities that we will be coming to, what clubs I’ll be at, how to get your merchandise. Besides that we have a little hence of a reality shows, I got TV stations reaching out to me. You guys are actually the first to even have heard about that, I just happened on my phone ride coming from New Jersey to Chicago. Two days ago, I got a text, I followed up the text with a phone call and it’s a good chance we ‘re going to have a reality show in Atlantic City but I’m not going to talk too much further on that. I don’t really talk about things until they happen. But that would probably be the next biggest thing to go down besides that it’s all full speed ahead on the things we got going on now.
