We were fortunate enough to talk ish with Rap Artist…A-Way!! A-Way has performed on BET’s 106 & Park twice already, being featured in XXL Magazine, on Worldstar Hip Hop, VEVO and that’s just to name a few. A-Way just recently released his latest album, Homecoming LP. Lets get to know A-Way…
3 Voices: Introduce yourself to the world. Let the people know who A-Way is and what A-Way does.
A-Way: What’s good world! It’s ya boy, A-Way. I’m a talented recording artist out of Chicago…definitely not your typical Chicago artist.
3 Voices: What inspired you to become a rap artist? Who are some artists that have influenced your music career?
A-Way: A lot of things inspire me daily as an artist but the beginning I don’t know, I guess [I] just developed passion for it… it was always around. Me, my little brother and my cousin [who’s] from out of town would battle rap against each other or just freestyle cypher as youngins. We were only like 8 or 9 at the time and I’ve kinda always been a performer cause we all use to help my uncle out around that time with his talent shows, basically lip song rap joints or R&B joints with a little get up on and all it was classic lol.
Some of the artist that influenced my career would be Tony Logic, Bump J, Kanye, Jay, Musiq Soulchild, Fab… I rock with a lot of different music.
3 Voices: You’ve already accomplished several things thus far including performing on BET’s 106 & Park more than once. What was that experience like? What was some advice you received by either the host or artist at 106 & Park?
A-Way: 106 was definitely a blessing. Like to actually have something I created, be loved to get me to that stage was dope and it taught me a lot in such a short time span. It also taught me a lot as far as the type of artist I am and how I affect people as well. I definitely wasn’t nervous; I was more ready for the moment than anything as if I were there before. The good advice I would say had to come from Omar he was basically the dude who selected the acts and he told us if we weren’t suppose to be here we wouldn’t be, grab hold of the moment and cease it…that’s exactly what we did.
3 Voices: Tell us about your latest single, Oh Lord. Can we expect a visual for the single?
A-Way: My latest single is “Don’t Trip” produced by The Agenda. I’ll be dropping my new single “L.O.L.” soon as well. But “Oh Lord” was just a special tease leak off my album, Homecoming. It’s my intro and we just wanted people to kind of get a taste of how we coming that’s all. I definitely plan to release a visual for almost every joint on the album, if not all.
3 Voices: Let the people know what they can expect from your next album, Homecoming. What’s your favorite single from Homecoming?
A-Way: As far as the Homecoming album, it’s definitely a versatile album from me. Kwaid of The Agenda produced the whole project… every joint on the album, he made the beat on the spot and I wrote the song on the spot. The vibe was 100, this album just like most of my projects reflect on different things I experienced in my life while working on the album. So every record is inspired by something that happened in my life and that’s why you can’t truly say what’s my favorite record on the album because they all touch different things and they all me. It tells a story of not just a homecoming night but reaching success, if happiness a place where you wanna be and I’ve always know that place to be called home. My mom is on the album… my mother hates rap but for her to come to the studio and add to my vision meant a lot to me. My pops [is] on the album, all my homies as well as my kid… like it’s really a story speaks on everything from shootings in Chicago to one night stands.
3 Voices: What’s next for A-Way? Are there any exclusives that you can share with us?
A-Way: What’s next for A-Way? Umm everything! Once this HomeComing album drop, the few interests I have in me will see how dominate I can be. I can’t say who the interests are just yet…don’t wanna jinx it, but I plan for my life to change by the 4th quarter.
3 Voices: How can the people reach out to A-Way on social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and etc.?
