We were fortunate enough to talk ish with Radio Personality…Sarah Vivan!!! Sarah Vivan is a radio personality of Streetz 94.5 Atlanta’s New Hip Hop Sensation. Whenever Sarah is not on the air she’s hosting different events, interviewing at some of the biggest concerts and awards shows, but most importantly Sarah is the mother of Esse and Lil Tune (Tunechi). Lets get to know Sarah Vivan…
3 Voices: What inspired you to become a radio personality?
Sarah Vivan: I was at a crossroads of trying to figure out what my real passion was because I knew that if I was going to get up and go do a job everyday, I had to be in love with it and it had to represent me. I was already immersed in music and pop culture, so when it was suggested to me that I do radio, I investigated how to get into it and wound up attending Atlanta Broadcast Institute. I just fell in love with every aspect of broadcasting…the production, on-air, on screen, editing… It was just a really fun way to express myself and voice my opinion.
3 Voices: How did you become a part of Streetz 94.5 Atlanta’s New Hip Hop Station?
Sarah Vivan: I started at Streetz as an intern for DJ Holiday’s Holiday Season Live, and just started doing whatever they needed taken care of, like building the station’s website, board-oping live broadcasts, voicing commercials. Then eventually they put me on-air with Jay Tek as a co-host on The Afternoon Turn Up Monday thru Friday from 2-6pm.
3 Voices: What is one of the biggest challenges you face being a radio personality?
Sarah Vivan: The biggest challenge for me with working in the radio business and even the music industry is that it’s a male dominated industry. As a woman you have to be on point because you’re constantly fighting stereotypes of being too emotional and if you’re attractive at all, it’s hard to be taken seriously. The men will try you, but you just have to shut it down and play it cool…Let them know that you’re about your business and be so good that they can’t deny you.
3 Voices: What do you enjoy the most about being a radio personality for Streetz 94.5?
Sarah Vivan: My favorite part about working for Streetz is we’re an independent station. So just like in the music industry when you’re independent you have more freedom and control to do what you want. Most of our personalities are DJs so they’re in the streets and the clubs every night and they know what our listeners want to hear. And because we don’t have a corporate parent company to answer to, we can break records and play what the people want to hear.
3 Voices: You have a relationship with so many well-known artists, who do you currently listen to the most when you’re in the car, at the gym, just relaxing and etc.?
Sarah Vivan: The west coast is really hot right now, from everybody hopping on DJ Mustard beats to the amazing albums coming out of that region like Kendrick Lamar’s and YG’s. That’s what’s mostly in my playlist right now, west coast vibes. But I always stay true to my fav The Weeknd and of course Drake. You can’t go wrong with them.
3 Voices: Which songs do you play the most when you’re on the radio?
Sarah Vivan: As far as what we play on our station… I mean you got K. Camp, Yo Gotti, Yung Thug, but you still get a mix of everything that’s hot in the country right now. No matter what region it’s from, if it’s hot in the club and our people want to hear it, we play it. That’s the thing about Atlanta, we’re such a melting pot of people from different parts of the country that even though the South is really prideful, we don’t discriminate on the music. I like to think we set the tone for what records the rest of the country decides to jump on.
3 Voices: With the father of your child being one of the biggest names in the music industry and with you being on one of the hottest radio stations in Atlanta, would you want your children to be involved in the music industry as well?
Sarah Vivan: I’m like most parents…I just want my kids to be happy and successful in all areas of their lives. Wayne and I have been blessed enough to do what we love to do and get paid essentially to be ourselves. That’s all I want for them, whatever career path they decide to pursue.
3 Voices: Does your son, Lil Tune (Tunechi) have an ear for music?
Sarah Vivan: My son does have an ear for music. It’s kind of amazing how you can recognize a skill in children so young. He loves to pick up on beats and melodies and just starts humming them or tapping the beat with whatever he can get his hands on lol. But if you ask him what he wants to be when he grows up, he’ll say a doctor and my daughter will say a scientist…and they change their minds daily lol.
3 Voices: What’s next for Sarah Vivan? Are there any exclusives you can share with us?
Sarah Vivan: I just want to continue to expand my reach as a broadcaster. Radio’s my first love so I don’t want to quit my day job but I’d love to do television hosting for entertainment and even sports outlets and someday try acting. But that’s much later on down the road. I want to focus on and master one craft at a time before I try to take on the next challenge. I don’t believe in putting myself in a box though, so whatever opportunities God puts in my path I’m always open to exploring them.
3 Voices: How can the people reach out to Sarah Vivan on social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and etc.?
Sarah Vivan: Instagram is the easiest way to interact with me. I’m on there the most out of all the social media sites but don’t come at me outta pocket because I’m the best at ignoring the foolery lol. I do like to get on Twitter when something big is on TV like an award show, if I’m not there covering it or a primetime show like Scandal. It’s always fun to watch and comment with the rest of the world. Some of y’all need your own stand up lol.
And there you have it! You heard it all from Sarah Vivan herself! Be sure to check her out on Streetz 94.5 Atlanta Monday through Friday from 2PM – 6PM. Much more success to you Sarah Vivan and keep in touch.
