We were fortunate enough to talk ish with comedian…I HATE VA!!! I HATE VA is a comedian that speaks on everyday situations without holding anything back. I HATE VA currently holds over 4.5 million views on YouTube and even featured on Marlon Wayans’s digital media company, “What The Funny” and WorldStar Hip Hop. I HATE VA is on the road to making the entire world laugh with a lot of things in the making. Let’s get to know I HATE VA…
3 Voices: Introduce yourself to the world. Let the people know who I HATE VA and what I HATE VA does.
I HATE VA: My name is I HATE VA. I am a comedian, sketch comedy writer & actor.
3 Voices: What inspired you to be a comedian? Who are some comedians that have influenced your career?
I HATE VA: I grew up watching shows like Fresh Prince & Seinfeld, believe it or not. I always wanted to be in the entertainment field in some type of capacity. Being an only child, I was forced to have a very creative imagination. I grew up poor in a bad neighborhood and early on my mom didn’t allow me to go outside much so my only escape was watching television and getting lost in the stories and characters. Eddie Murphy, Jamie Fox & Dave Chappelle are my favorite comedians.
3 Voices: What’s the best part of being a comedian? What’s the most challenging part about being a comedian?
I HATE VA: It sounds corny but the best part about being a comedian is making someone’s day a little bit better. People reach out to me all the time and say they were having a bad day then watched one of my videos and it improved their mood. That is powerful & humbling to me. The worst part is dealing with other comedians, when you are a new comer very few reach out and encourage you. I’ve never been the type to need it, I can motivate myself. So I always make it a point to give advice and tips to anyone who might have questions.
3 Voices: You have millions of views on YouTube, over 4.5 million to be exact. Basically because you find ways to make real life situations that a lot of people have a hard time admitting the truth to, funny. Do you have a limit to the things you talk about? Is there any topic or issue that you just refuse to make a joke about?
I HATE VA: The beautiful thing about comedy is there are no limits. You can talk about any subject, you just have to [be]able to present it in a manner that people can digest and enjoy. It’s like feeding a child vegetables, they might not eat it if you just put it on a plate and serve it to them. But if you put it on a spoon and act like it’s a plane flying into their mouth, they might eat it. The great comedians can make any topic funny. I would try my hand at any topic.
3 Voices: What’s I HATE VA’s favorite topic to discuss? Out of all the sketches you’ve done which one is your favorite? Which sketch was you most impressed by the outcome and other’s viewpoint of it?
I HATE VA: My favorite topic to discuss is relationships, I feel like everyone can relate. My favorite sketch I’ve done is called “The Race (Sex Like You’ve Never Seen It Before)”. I get inside the mind of a sperm cell and his struggle for life. I surprised myself and others with the outcome of my sketch “The Lavender House (Gay Only College Dorm)”. Most of my sketches are edgy and in your face. Most of the people around me did not think I would be able to make a funny sketch about gays without being offensive. But a lot of gay people told me they thought it was very funny. And it is featured on Marlon Wayans website “What The Funny”. And the guys who played the gay characters were really gay. It gave me an opportunity to work with people I wouldn’t normally associate with.
3 Voices: What’s next for I HATE VA? Are there any exclusives that you can share with us?
I HATE VA: This summer I will be going to Los Angles to link up with other youtubers & comedians. My sketches are now being featured on Marlon Wayans site “What The Funny”, so that is great exposure for me. I am also working with Kings of Comedy producer Walter Latham on new content. I’m just staying busy and putting out new content. Most of my new skits will be my “Story Time” series. I’ve got a new one coming out this week; let’s just say it consists of a single mom, a baby & roller skates.
