We were fortunate enough to talk ish with Porsha, The Fashion Misfits owner!!! The Fashion Misfits is a clothing line that we were able to witness rip the runway at the Chicago District of Fashion Show. We were very impressed with the designs of their clothing and thought their name was very clever. Lets get to know Porsha and The Fashion Misfits…
3 Voices: Introduce the world to the Fashion Misfits. Let the people know what The Fashion Misfits is all about.
The Fashion Misfits: Fashion Misfits are fearless. They can rock a tee that says what the next person is afraid to say, although they’re thinking it. Fashion Misfits are dope, fashionable, and stylish. Fly shit only to be exact.
3 Voices: How did The Fashion Misfits actually come about? When were The Fashion Misfits first created?
The Fashion Misfits: Well, I’m a Gemini and we can be all over the place but we are very creative. I went through making jewelry to phone cases, you name it! But nothing ever stuck with me like fashion. I was pregnant with my son during the early stages of creating Fashion Misfits back in 2013. When it comes to fashion you never want someone in the same room to have on what you have on and that’s how I felt. I created Fashion Misfits to set myself apart from everyone else. There are a lot of guys in Chicago holding down the fashion scene so I wanted to make a name for myself for holding my own and also being a woman.
3 Voices: Tell us about some of the designs? Which design does everyone tend to acquire about the most?
The Fashion Misfits: My designs are pretty much an extension of how I’m feeling at different times. I have a design [called] “Asshole By Nature”. Since I LOVE 90’s music and I could have very well been feeling like being an asshole at that time lol. It’s how I express myself. The two most popular are my Blunts & Boobs and Party & BULLshit designs. A lot of people inquire about those the most.
3 Voices: We noticed that you all recently released a new design that features Janet Jackson. Tell us about the new concept. Will there be other celebrities featured on The Fashion Misfits?
The Fashion Misfits: Celebrities that I looked up to or are icons are how I select my designs. I loved Janet Jackson growing up and that pose is iconic! How could I not pay homage? You will see a lot of Tupac in the designs. He made such an impact on me as well. The Party & BULLshit design was inspired by the late and great Biggie as well [as] the Chicago Bulls. So I basically choose celebrities that are near and dear to my heart.
3 Voices: What’s next for The Fashion Misfits? Are there any exclusives that you all can share with us?
The Fashion Misfits: Well, Fashion Misfits will be offering men’s apparel as well. When Fashion Misfits first launched in July 2013 it was exclusively for women. So fellas don’t worry I got ya! Any exclusives you just have to stay tuned!
