We were fortunate enough to talk ish with Clothing Designer…Mr. Goodie Twoshu!!! Mr. Goodie Twoshu is a former rap artist,Mickey Da Kid, turned clothing designer. Mr. Goodie Twoshu experienced some of the most exciting and some of the most disappointing moments as a up & coming artist in the music industry that helped him transition into the fashion world. Lets get to know Mr. Goodie Twoshu…
3 Voices: Introduce yourself to the world. Let the people know who Mr. Goodie Twoshu is and what Mr. Goodie Twoshu does.
Mr. Goodie Twoshu: What’s Goodie free world, my name is Mr. Goodie Twoshu…I’m a new fashion designer getting a pinch on what the world has to offer for me. Many years I found myself in a creative world spin finding myself as a person as well as a designer. January 2014, I started my very first line, Goodie Twoshu the name stems from the London Fairy Tale about the little kid who only had one shoe finally getting another showing it off to the world. My line is unisex and the name mashes misconception of people. In so many ways, I can draw examples on why the name caputers moments in my life but I like to give our supporters this example. Have you ever met somebody totally opposite of your perception of a friend and got to know them realizing you had so much in common? That’s a Goodie Twoshu moment. See as a fashion designer, I see freedom in dressing and expressing yourself. It’s the hello before the hello that makes the goodbye last a life time. I belive in good people and we often get looked past because of being humbled out hustled and I prepared my journey to prove change comes from good people .
3 Voices: You started out as a rap artist and even made a single called, “Coco Loso” that Puff Daddy aka P. Diddy noticed. Tell us a little about that experience.
Mr. Goodie Twoshu: Wow to this day I say “Thank You Diddy for acknowledging me as an artist that felt like a grammy to me”. Ok so my name is Mickey Da Kid to many…it’s my mixtape time and [I’m] prepared like if I was a superstar or something. I just asked God to help me bring out the best of me and I put myself in this thinking tank. I’m almost finished with my mixtape and Diddy makes an announcement [that] he’s releasing a new Vodka called Ciroc and he was giving a mix to it called “coco loso”. I thought to myself honest to God I wanted to make the song to big it up, I never thought all of this but I do take my music serious. I didn’t have a beat or anything, remember he just announced it but I was also in the mixtape mode putting things together. I always keep beats on the side like a hobby, its just how I get in my jello. Any how next day I’m driving to the store with my brother, Andy Appleseed (shameless plug) love him…best friend all that. Okay yes and I looked at him and just chant “we sipping on coco losooooooooo” and we gave each other that look like if we just saw a car with square wheels. You know after coming back from the store I raced right back to my house and I found this beat I had and the magic began i wrote it that day. The next day I tweeted it on twitter not thinking Diddy was that close to the people to even listen to it. I remember my brother, he is a film director we work together I do music…he does film and he is something else too he was working for Dj Superstar Jay and Dj Stunna Show filming and editing. He said lets give it to Dj Superstar Jay maybe he will play it and get more love for the record when we brought it to him, he immediately began telling me the song is really good and I make great music. I have to get myself out there more…he looked me in the eye and said ” Mickey i gotchu” and I will never never never forget he was so persistent getting my record played with DJ Self one of the top Dj’s [out] of New York, but as God does his work Diddy out of no where tweeted the record telling every DJ to play co signed. That was a gift to my fans I had to give DJ Self the CD, me and my friend Phive met him in the club and DJ Self said “Mickey is this the one” and I looked at him and said “yes Self, its hot”. Before I turned around happy without showing it to blow my cool cover he said “Mickey, Dj Superstar Jay called me crazy about this so if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t even had listened, I’m mad busy”. I thank both of those guys because the second he played it on the radio, the smile that came on my moms face was priceless day to day to day spin to spin people called and rooted for me around the world. Ciroc sponsored the Coco Loso video, but with sunshine comes the rain. After it was all over we realized we didn’t have enough funds to promote the video, we did everything ourselves…I know that sounds great but being independent just became cool at the time. Hip hop looked at independent as un employed almost in a way. People that came around only for fame disappeared and family remained. I found myself still releasing music and fans responding really well but me I wanted to keep giving them more of me bigger and bigger even if it meant working for free it was extremely hard. I began to find myself and all those people who came around me just for the fame disappeared giving me the right time and chance to prove who is it. I really was the guy that had good music [and] also makes good fashion, how I say those who don’t understand it… I’m happy being me. I just want people to know and the kids to know [who’s] trying to get into entertainment…God made me this way, I never understood why hustle beats talent. You see some of us don’t pop bottles every week in the clubs, some of us came from good families that just fell into hard times do to lack of miscommunication, money and hardships. Some of us care and would sign any dotted line to see a smile on our moms face, you see I got played on every station…my mom was my number one fan to see her smile like that’s my son I will wait on the long line and spend ridiculous money on liquor…I won’t drink because I don’t drink just to perform in front of Ashanti, her mother and Diddy. Yes, I did that but will they love you in the end for your work or your money? I feel so much more appreciated as a fashion designer because we enter a time where freedom of expression is at an all time high so I find myself at my happiest point sometimes just to look on twitter and instagram and pick a person [and] reward them with a t-shirt, that feeling of surprise brings me back to why I love to create for reaction change and good memories.
