We were fortunate to talk ish with Cake Artist….Jordyn!!! Jordyn is a young business owner of JordyCakes Custom Cake and Cupcake Boutique that’s located right here in Chicago! Jordyn has made several cakes that looks exactly like the actual figures and images she used to design her cakes from. Jordyn has also made cakes for celebrities like Chaka Khan, Dwayne Wade, Common, O.J. Mayo and that’s only to name a few. Let’s get to know Jordyn…
3 Voices: Introduce yourself to the world. Let the people know who Jordyn is and what Jordyn does.
Jordyn: I am a 20 year old cake artist who recently opened my own shop, JordyCakes Custom Cake & Cupcake Boutique.
3 Voices: How long have you been baking? What inspires you to bake?
Jordyn: I realized that I had a gift for baking and decorating at the age of 16 after completing a 2 week cake decorating section in my high school foods class. After making the very difficult decision to quit the varsity cheerleading team at my school I had lots of extra time on nights and weekends and started seriously working on my new hobby- baking beautiful cakes and cupcakes!
I am inspired by the reactions of my customers when they see the cake or cupcakes that they ordered. I consider my cakes to be works of art and love when my customers are excited about the end result!
3 Voices: You consider yourself the “Beyonce of Baking” because you both started your career young and put your all into your craft. When (yes, we believe that it will happen one day)…when Beyonce contacts you to create her a cake, what type of cake would you design for King Bey?
Jordyn: Baking a cake for Beyonce will literally be a DREAM COME TRUE for me! I cannot even imagine what type of cake I will make for her if (when!) given the opportunity but I’m sure that whatever I do will be fit for a Queen- or King!
3 Voices: You’ve made cakes for R&B Soul Singer Chaka Khan, Miami Heat player Dwayne Wade, Hip Hop Icon Common and that’s only to name a few. Not many bakeries have had the opportunity to take the orders of a celebrity but you have and you are still very young. Who was the first celebrity to reach out to you to make them a cake? Tell us about the day that you were contacted by that celebrity and what kind of cake you made him or her?
Jordyn: The first celebrity cake I made was for Chaka Khan. Someone who had connections with the people who were planning her 40th Anniversary in the Music business celebration met me and tasted my cupcakes at an event for a close family friend of mine and she told Chaka Khan’s people about me. When they asked me to make the cake for the event I was extremely flattered but because of my age (I was 19 then) I wasn’t nearly as excited as my mom and aunt! I made a cake that showcased Chaka Khan’s face, hair and the city of Chicago. And once I actually went onstage to present the cake to her I and saw the THOUSANDS of people filling Millennium Park I realized that Chaka Khan was, is and always will be an ICON!
3 Voices: Although you have made tons of cakes, out of all the beautiful and creative cakes you’ve made, which one is your favorite one or impressed you the most from the outcome?
Jordyn: I don’t have a specific favorite cake but I like anything girly- the more pink the better, with pearls and bling and of course my signature bow(s)!
3 Voices: What’s next for Jordyn? Are there any exclusives that you can share with us?
Jordyn: Now that I have opened my boutique and hired an assistant decorator I am happy that I can take a few more orders every weekend. I am also planning to expand by taking some commercial accounts and I may be considering doing a JordyCakes Reality show . . . . .
3 Voices: How can the people reach out to Jordyn on social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and etc.?
Jordyn: Follow me on IG @exjordynary and Facebook at Jordy Cakes!
