We were fortunate enough to be able to talk ish with a female rapper all the way from Brooklyn, New York…Ms. Candis!!! She also goes by the name SheIsHipHop and we telling y’all she might just be right. She actually puts us in the mind of Eve back in her “Love Is Blind” days. She doesn’t just rap but also engages in a lot of projects that support and help the youth.
3 Voices: First off, thank you for agreeing to be a part of our Up and Comers feature. It really means a lot to us. So explain to our readers how you got the name “SheIsHipHop?”
SheIsHipHop: Thank you for introducing me to your supporters. This opportunity means a lot to me. SheIsHipHop started out as a twitter name given to me by a former business partner. It grew on me and people started to call me that so I just ran with it.
3 Voices: When did you realize that you wanted to be a part of the Hip Hop Industry?
SheIsHipHop: In the late 90s. I always used to write down lyrics to memorize the songs of others so I can rap along when the song came on the radio. One day I just decided to take a shot at it and give my own lyrics a try.
3 Voices: Who are your biggest influences?
SheIsHipHop: I have quite a few, but Jay-Z , Lil Kim, and Foxy Brown definitely molded me in my earlier years.
3 Voices: We read that you have been featured on a few televised shows promoting your music, how was that whole experience?
SheIsHipHop: Any exposure is awesome. Of course big names and being able to explore avenues with larger audiences is always a plus and looks good on your resume, but I feel good anytime I’m able to get my name and my music in the hands of someone who didn’t know of me before then.
3 Voices: Have or would you like to work with anybody who is currently in the music industry?
SheIsHipHop: I have not worked with any big names as of yet, but there’s a lot of people that I’d like to work with, including Nicki Minaj, Jay-Z, Drake, Kanye West. All of the power players for sure.
3 Voices: We also see that you give back to the community, what are some things that you are a part of?
SheIsHipHop: Yes, touching lives is just as important to me as making music. As a college student, I know the struggle of paying for books, etc. so I decided to create a $500 college scholarship opportunity, where a student has to submit proof of college enrollment and a 500-word essay on a specified topic to qualify. Anyone interested can email firstname.lastname@example.org for more details or visit my company website DreamHouseEnt.com. We have just extended the deadline to September 30th to accommodate those college students that are returning to school in late August. I also sponsor a youth group in Brooklyn called Educated Little Monsters Youth Group.
3 Voices: If someone wanted to reach out to you on social media, far as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and etc. How would do get in touch with the real you?
SheIsHipHop: I can be reached on all social media sites as @SheIsHipHop. That’s my brand. Anyone trying to connect with me can also visit my website SheIsHipHop.com.
There you have people! You heard it from Ms. Candis aka SheIsHipHop herself! If you haven’t already, you need to check her out and get in tune with her movement. Thank you SheIsHipHop.
