We were fortunte enough to be able to talk ish with Chicago’s very own up and comer actor….Mr. Gio Johnson!!! Gio has been showing his acting skills on numerous stages, movies and television sets for quite some time and he’s still on the rise. Let’s get to know Gio Johnson a little more…
3 Voices: Introduce yourself to the people. Let them know exactly who you are and what you do.
Gio Johnson: My name is Giorgio “Gio” Johnson, im 23 years old. and Im an Actor. I was born and raised in Chicago. Outside of acting im also a Songwriter, i love music, hanging out with my friends, and Traveling.
3 Voices: How long have you been acting? When did you know that you could actually act?
Gio Johnson: I had my first acting role when i was 6, i did a commercial for NBC for a program they use to have every year in Chicago. After that i did small roles in Church skits and things like that, it wasn’t until i got into a performing arts program in school that i really started getting serious with it. I started to go on more auditions and take classes, and of course i didn’t book everything i went out for, but the more I studied and practiced the better i became. So I don’t know what moment it exactly was when i knew i could act, but i know i’ve always wanted to be in the entertainment field in someway.
3 Voices: How was it being a part of NBC’s Chicago Fire? Tell us about the role you played?
Gio Johnson: That was an amazing experience! it was my first time really being on a set and having my own trailer and everything! It was a long day on set but a lot of fun. I got to play a kid who had been shot in the neck on a bus that they performed emergency surgery on. To make it look real i had to get a special effects piece put on that took about 2 hours to do each time i was on set. I had no i dea it took so much work to do such a short scene, but i loved every minute of it.
3 Voices: What is your dream role?
Gio Johnson: I have a couple. I would love to play like a ninja or an assassin, because i love action movies. I would also love to be in a horror movie, doesn’t matter what role as long as i don’t die first lol!
3 Voices: LOL! Yeah don’t nobody want to be the first to die. Who are some of your acting heroes?
Gio Johnson: I have quite a few Brian White, Will Smith, Denzel Washington, but i think the one that stands out the most is Cory Hardrict. I look up to Cory the most because he came from my city and his story about how he moved to LA to chase his dreams was definitely inspirational, and motivated me to never give up.
3 Voices: You have been in a quite a few stage plays such as “Between Two Worlds, Broken Ribs, and The Voice of a Child” the list goes on and on. Is being a part of a stage play more challenging than actually acting in front of a camera?
Gio Johnson: In some ways it is, because with film you can be more natural, whereas with stage you have to be conscious of your blocking, and projecting your voice and things like that. Also with film if you mess up you can just stop and go back, but on stage everything is live and if you mess up you have to be able to recover on the spot. I love both Stage and Film though!
3 Voices: How did you become a part of Todrick Hall’s up and coming project, “Meet the CarTRASHYans”? What has that experience been like for you?
Gio Johnson: Todrick had a contest called “Todrick Hall’s My Engajer Challenge” were he asked people to joing this new website, engajer.com, and create one showing off there talents and there everyday life, and the winner would be chosen based on like, shares, tweets, and creativity. So i got right to work and when i was done i sent it to all my friends and was constantly pushing, and a month later i was in LA! I’ve watched Todricks work for a long time and have always admired his creativity and talent so to get to work with him in person and see everything first hand was amazing. He works extremely fast, within the 3 days i was able to be there as he shot 6 different videos. I left there motivated and inspired by Todrick’s work ethic. As far as the CarTRASHYans it was reshot after i filmed for good reason, but i will be working with Todrick again just not sure, exactly when but i will keep you guys posted!!
