Sunday, November 2nd, history has been made in the city of Chicago. Despite the negativity that tends to outshine Chicago as a whole, Chicago is home of the Taste of Chicago, Lollapalooza, just recently added the AAHH Fest and now we have the Englewood 5K.
Forever Fitness Chicago, LLC ‘s very own, Andrea Drane & Ariana Taylor put together the 1st Annual Englewood 5K Walk & Run: Ditch the Weight & Guns right in the heart of the Englewood community. Over 800 registered members showed up and were ready to walk & run their 5K. Rahm Emanuel, mayor of Chicago even came out prepared & ready to participate. Several of Chicago’s news stations were in attendance, interviewing participants of the Englewood 5k. Alderman of the 16th Ward, Toni Foulkes spoke briefly about growing up in Chicago. Minister Diretha Jennings provided a prayer before the race began. Fitness Trainer, Jane instructed everyone on how to properly stretch in order to loosen up their muscles. Although there was a first, second & third place winner, everyone who made it across the finish line was a winner. Most importantly, Harper High School Football Team & Non-Profit Forever Moving Forward received a well-deserving, generous donation.
The entire event was well-organized. We commend Andrea & Ariana for a job well-done. Shout out to all sponsors: Chicago Bears, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Chicago White Sox, Gatorade, Whole Foods Market, Burrell, Chicago Urban League, The University Of Chicago Medicine, Mayoral Candidate Bob Fioretti, Gospel Run, Target, Fleet Feet Sports, Butterfly Jeans, Newman’s Tax Services, SEIU Healthcare, Epiphany Child & Family, Marquette Park, Hype Events, Chitown Managers, FITT, Universal Sole, R.A.G.E, Sixteen 0 Four, MRDS, A Diamond’s Heart, Chosen For A Purpose, Precision Cuts Hair Studio & everyone who registered for the Englewood 5K. We definitely look forward to the 2nd Annual Englewood 5K Walk & Run: Ditch the Weight & Guns.
