This afternoon we were invited out by teacher and director of Drew Sidora’s Dreamakers Foundation, Camiella Williams to hear Drew Sidora speak to the young people about how to stay off the streets and do something powerful with their life. It was a part of the GOALS Summer Jobs Program, a grant program conducted at Saint Sabina Church to offer teens and young adults opportunities to succeed.
Before Drew arrived, we spoke about our blog & trying to promote positivity. We then sat in while Camiella conducted the group, speaking on information necessary to help them better themselves. She talked about knowing your rights in relation to the police, filing the proper reports & knowing the laws.
Drew Sidora came out to inspire the kids & help figure out what the problem is & possible solutions. She came out to help inspire & pump the kids up & let them know their voices are important. She spoke on the importance of showing up & building the numbers so that plans can be made & action can happen. She gave individual advice to each of the teens who spoke about their dreams & what they want to do. She let them know that she has struggled & still continues to fight obstacles to succeed. She emphasized the importance of hard work, making people want to support you by showing what you did before. Making something out of nothing makes people want to give you something.
It takes a village, it takes a movement. People are not going to support if they do not feel there is manpower & energy behind it. Drew and her Dreamakers Foundation are doing great things in our city. She is a part of the movement trying to help rid the streets of violence and help the youth gain a sense of purpose. We would like to commend Drew and Camiella on their work and we will continue to come out and support anyway we can.
