How many times have you tried to do something and end up having to ask someone else for assistance but they just couldn’t do you that one favor without having to say…”that’s common sense”? Or you might be the person that’s quick to say “that’s common sense.” Yeah, I am definitely a victim of both. But as I think about it, the more I realize that, common sense is not that common. Most things are easier said then done. Here’s a few scenarios:
*You call yourself in love and with a guy or girl and he or she cheats on you. Common sense would say to move on and leave that person alone. That’s easier said than done. The heart wants what the heart wants, especially if you gave your all to a person. You can’t just wipe your feelings away and move on to the next one. It takes time and its a process to fully get over someone who you genuinely cared about and loved.
*You are having difficulties solving a problem that your teacher or professor assigned. But the little “genius” find the assignment to be relatively easy; therefore you ask that person for help. Not only do that person provide you with the answer, they also find the need to say, “that’s common sense.” That may not be your favorite subject or you just couldn’t fully comprehend the material all the way. In my case, I usually don’t pay close attention (my attention span tends to be low, that’s not my fault) but if I would have known the solution to the problem, I’m sure I wouldn’t have ask for your assistance.
*You may be trying to operate something in your household like a remote control, TV, computer, using the can opener and etc. and is having difficulties with getting the thing to work right so you decide to ask someone in your house for help. But of course, your family member is there to assist you but also have to add the saying, “that’s common sense.” Just because you are able to operate something quicker than I can doesn’t make it so common, you may have just used it already prior to me trying to operate it. Don’t go getting all big-headed like you invented the remote control, TV, computer, using the can opener and etc. You just probably had more time to operate it than I have.
I could keep going on and on about the whole “common sense” thing but I think you are starting to get the picture. Just because you’re able to master or even excel in something that someone else may need a little more time to grasp doesn’t require the “that’s common sense” phrase. Agree or disagree? It doesn’t really matter, just Talk Ish…
