“I met this girl when I was 10 years old…and what I loved most she had so much soul…she was old school when I was just a shorty…never knew throughout my life she would be there for me…”
Sunday Common & John Legend took home the Academy Award for their song Glory from the soundtrack for Selma. Following that amazing win, we thought it only right to take it back with classic Common.
I Used To Love H.E.R. is one of the songs people bring up when they’re talking about the golden age of Hip Hop. Obviously the song represents well because it is a love song to Hip Hop. Anybody who loves Hip Hop can relate. At times it gets frustrating thinking about when you fell in love with it & seeing what it has come to & how some of it is expressed. But at the end of the day, no matter what, at its core you still love it.
Salute to Common for giving us this classic love song to Hip Hop. And of course congratulations on the Oscar. Moments like that are incredible for Hip Hop & remind you why you love it. Like Common said, “I did her…not just to say I did it, but I’m committed…but so many n*ggas hit it that she’s just not the same lettin all these groupies do her…I seen n*ggas slammin her & takin her to the sewer…but Imma take her back hoping that the sh*t stop…cuz who I’m talkin bout y’all is Hip Hop”.
