An accomplished singer and songwriter, a Soul Train Award R&B Songstress and a Billboard Award-winning group from Maryland will headline the 2017 Chicago Westside Music Festival (“WSMF”). Presented by the Westside Cultural Foundation, the annual summer festival will feature Lil’ Mo, Vivian Green and Dru Hill for the 6th Annual WSMF on Saturday, August 19, 2017. Hosted by WGCI’s very own Leon Rogers, WSMF will feature local Chicago talent, performing in various genres. All of the festival events are free and open to the public. The annual summer festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Douglas Park, 1401 S. Sacramento Drive (at the corner of Ogden and Sacramento), in Chicago, Illinois.
“We are excited about the enhancements that we have made to the festival this year, as well as the opportunity to continue to provide such an amazing FREE experience on Chicago’s West Side,” said Lauren Raymond, Executive Director of the Westside Cultural Foundation.
The day will begin at 11 a.m. with the End of Summer Celebration, sponsored by the 24th Ward Alderman, Michael Scott, Jr. There will be activities for kids and seniors, along with school supply and backpack giveaways. “I’m proud to continue to partner with the Westside Cultural Foundation to put on this annual event that provides family focused fun to the North Lawndale community, my neighbors on the West Side and the entire Chicagoland area. This event has grown to be a staple to end the summer and usher our young people back to school,” said Michael Scott, Jr., 24th Ward Alderman.
Performances will begin at 4 p.m. Top Chicago local talent Kilika Tabron, Dej Monae, Yohan, Matt B. and Marcus Mack will open the show, followed by performances by Lil’ Mo, Vivian Green and Dru Hill.
This year’s sponsors include BMO Harris Bank (Presenting Sponsor), ComEd, Cinespace Chicago Film Studios, MillerCoors, Verizon, the Chicago Housing Authority Comcast, CVS, Lagunitas, Loop Capital, Walgreens, Clarius Partners, American
Airlines, Airbnb and Uncle Remus; media/promotional partnership with iHeart Radio; and our partners include the Chicago Park District, Mayor’s Nights Out in the Parks, 24th Ward Democratic Organization, AGB Investigative Services, BDavis Designs and Exact Publicity.
The Westside Cultural Foundation was founded in 2012 to establish the West Side as a destination for cultural and educational programming. Inspired by the late Chicago official, Michael Scott, Sr., WSMF is intended to shine light on the positive contributions, culture, and people of Chicago’s West Side. WSMF is coined as one of the best End of the Summer celebrations in the City of Chicago.
The festival continues to build upon a stellar legacy of talent. Past headliners of the festival include music legends such as Kelly Price, Slick Rick, MC Lyte, Bell Biv DeVoe, Musiq Soulchild, Syleena Johnson, Brownstone and 112.
This is an open seating event. Attendees are allowed to bring lawn chairs, tents (only in designated areas) and prepared food (no grills allowed). Food vendors and the MillerCoors beer garden will also be onsite.
