Last night the Chicago Sky pulled out a victory over the Indiana Fever to win the WNBA’s Eastern Conference championship. They will now be going on to the WNBA Finals!
Last year this time, the Sky loss fairly early in the playoffs, which was a huge upset following a very promising season, featuring Rookie of the Year Elena Selle Donne & Defensive Player of the Year Sylvia Fowles. However, the team, led by coach Pokey Chapman, bounced back determined to fulfill their potential.
They finished this season fourth in the conference. They upset the top seeded Atlanta Dream. They then defeated the #2 Indiana Fever 75-62, led by Allie Quigley with her 24 points, who is this season’s Sixth Player of the Year.
The Sky will now be facing Phoenix Mercury in a best of 5 series. It will be a tough match up with the dominant Britney Griner holding court in the paint. Griner holds a record for blocks in a season & was the first to dunk in a playoff game. However, she will be battling with Sylvia Fowles who is no pushover. It will be a very interesting series to say the least. The first game will be Sunday. It will be tough, but in the words of the Chicago Sky #ThisIsOurMoment
Congratulations to the Sky on their victory! We will be rooting for you.
