It’s been said numerous times before and even came to a point where people became “afraid” to speak out and take a stand, for a place that was once known as the Windy City. Unfortunately over the past few years, Chicago has been known and recognized for the war zone that most live in, which most recognize as, ChiRaq. Once upon a time, parents, grandparents, pastors and etc. were the only proud activists who tried to redeem the city of Chicago. Not anymore! Everyone, young and old, even some of Chicago’s biggest names such as Chance The Rapper, Lil Durk, Stunt Taylor, Dlow, Kevin Lavell, Dreezy, Twista, and so many others have been coming together to spread the word of “Stop the Violence” all across social media sites, events, and basketball games. There has been countless amounts of movements designed to bring the peace back to Chicago such as #SaveChicago, #AntiChiraq #GiveUsBackOurCity, #StopSenselessShootingsAndKillings #IncreaseThePeace, #PutTheGunsDown, #ChicagoOverEverything, and the list goes on and on. We support them all! It’s time for all the violence to come to an end. It’s sad that there has been more funerals than graduations and the life expectation for an African American is at an all time low.
It’s not too late to make a change and difference, support each and every movement, let the world know that Chicago is a beautiful place! Like we indicted in a previous poem, Life Is Too Short;
“Life Is Too Short to not uplift others but instead try to bring them down,
Life Is Too Short to embrace the negativity and act like Chicago can’t be this once beautiful city, just look at downtown.”
