We have all seen the devastation that has followed the hurricanes & earthquakes that have happened across the world. Many of you were personally effected by Hurricane Harvey or Irma. Although the actual storms are over, many are still suffering the effects. Many have risen to the occasion to provide aid, but some may not know how. There are some options for those who would like to get involved & do whatever they can.
People have lost literally everything, so anything that you may have to send can be a help. It is going to take quite some time for most of the damage to be repaired & property replaced. First of all, DO NOT donate to Red Cross. History has shown that there is no telling where that money will end up. The way to go is local organizations that are offering direct aid. Here are some links to some funds:
Texas Organizing Project – organizetexas.org
United Way of Greater Houston – unitedwayhouston.org
Houston Food Bank – houstonfoodbank.org
Bread of Life – breadoflifeinc.org
Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund – ghcf.org
The Caribbean islands were hit hard. Anguilla, Antigua, St Martin, the British Virgin Islands, Turks and Caicos, & especially Barbuda need massive aid. Barbuda was basically leveled & the entire island was forced to evacuate. In an effort to try to meet these islands’ needs the UN has set up a Regional Response Fund. To donate you can go to here. To give to the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, go here. There are also organizations in your city that are collecting donations. Look up (your city) disaster relief to find those locations.
Texas & the Caribbean are not the only places that need help. Mexico also suffered a major earthquake. Mexico was prepared to offer aid to Texas, but was unfortunately struck by its own disaster. To help in their recovery donate here. Make sure you check to see what donations are tax deductible. There were many places effected around the world. Unfortunately I was not able to find reliable relief funds for them all. We have to be aware of where we give money because the sad reality is that it does not always go in the places we hope they will. If any of you know of any other organizations that are taking donations, please feel free to include them below.
