There are some horrifying things going on in the world today. Particularly right now in Nigeria. Girls have been abducted in large numbers, but for some reason in this country it’s not being reported on. Here’s what you need to know.
Over 200 teenage girls in Nigeria have been kidnapped and sold from a school. This took place over 2 weeks ago. Militant terrorists came into the girls dormitories at night and snatched them. The official number kidnapped is at 230. Their ages range from 16 to 18. 40 of the girls were able to escape. All of the others have disappeared without a trace. There are supposedly efforts being made to rally support for militaries to go in to assist in finding the girls, presuming they have not already been sold off throughout Africa. Although there is no certain way of knowing these girls’ fate, the families believe they have been forced into marriages. The Nigerian army has supposedly been looking for them, but claims that the militants are receiving tips which are helping them to evade them.
Reportedly things like this have been happening in this region of Nigeria for years. There is a push from the UN to make schools safer for children. There have been rallies in Abuja, Nigeria. People believe the government is not working hard enough to get the girls back.
This entire situation is horrific to think of. 230 girls stolen in the night and done who knows what to. It is insane to think of. That there is not enough being done to retrieve them is unthinkable. I would like to applaud all of the celebrities using their platforms to bring light to this situation. The news has not bothered to pick up on this story, probably too busy reporting on the Sterling situation. It is outrageous that something like this is not considered newsworthy. We must keep our eyes open and continue to press for the return of these girls and that justice be served to the group who has taken them.
